Jason Alvarez

Jason Alvarez, 29, a Latino man, was shot in the chest at 2500 Houston St. in LAPD's Hollenbeck area at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, and died later at a hospital. He and a companion had stopped on a street corner where some Hispanic men or youths were engaged in underground business. Alvarez and his friend got out of the car to talk to them. One of the men they were talking to decided to rob Alvarez and his friend of jewelry. The man then shot Alvarez and told his friend to drive off.

One reader comment about Jason Alvarez

Jay was a person who always had a big smile. I met him at the men's home in El Monte, where he was starting to make change in his life. God had other plans, and took him home. Tony and I were laughing at all the fun times in the men's home just the other day. Hopping your smiling down on us and being our guardian angel. Miss you guy
