Jeremy Bloodworth, 25

Died Oct. 21, 2010

Jeremy Bloodworth, a 25-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Oct. 21, in the 12600 block of South Harvard Boulevard in Athens, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Jeremy’s parents, Gladys and John Bloodworth, got into an altercation with each other at their home at about 2:30 a.m., said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Jeremy Bloodworth got involved in the fight, and John shot him and Gladys, Winter said.

Authorities were called, and mother and son were pronounced dead at the scene. According to coroner’s records, Gladys, a 64-year-old black woman, suffered a gunshot wound to the face, and Jeremy sustained a shot to the head.

Soon afterward, deputies from the L.A. County sheriff's Lennox station, arrested John Bloodworth, a 65-year-old black man. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office charged Bloodsworth on Monday with two counts of murder.

His arraignment is scheduled Nov. 15 at the Inglewood Municipal Court. He currently is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

[For the record: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said John Bloodworth was shot in the head.]

This is a very sad case.. This is an example of the sorrow that is rampant in our community. We must continue to advocate against this type of senseless violence. We are too tired of allowing our community.. This young man lost his life in an honorable way.. Protecting his mother..

Get your story straight "...while John sustained a shot to the head????"

John is alive and Jeremy was shot in the head.

Get it right before you post.

I worked with Jeremy at The Inglewood Target store for a year and he was the most kind and gentle young man i had ever met. He always had a big smile when he came thru the back door and was a great co-worker and friend. When i heard this story it brought me to tears and he will truly be missed. My prayers and humble thoughts go out to his family and relatives.
R.I.P MOTHER & SON...

This is such a tragedy. Hope this holiday season friends and family will not forget that Jeremy also left behind a toddler daughter, Mia--the most innocent of all victims. Our prayers are with Mia who lost her father and paternal grandmother as well as paternal grandfather (the suspect). It has been more than one year since this tragedy. Mia would inherit from Jeremy anything Jeremy would have inherited from his mother Gladys. Hope Mia gets the assistance she needs from insurance and inheritance so that Mia's mother (Alba) and her side of the family--all of whom will assist in raising this little girl without her father. So sad.
