Jimmy Jimenez, 29

Died July 24, 2010

Jimmy Jimenez, a 29-year-old Latino man, was fatally shot Saturday, July 24, in the 300 block of West Lohart Avenue in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities received a call of shots fired late that evening, said Sgt. Mike Flores of the Montebello Police Department. When police arrived, they found Jimenez shot several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:59 p.m., according to coroner's records.

No one else was hurt during the incident, Flores said.

Witnesses to the shooting described the assailant as a male Latino in his 20s. He was last seen fleeing the area in an early 2000s white sport utility vehicle.

Investigators believe the shooting may be gang-related.

[Note: This homicide did not appear on a coroner's report several weeks ago. It was added Sept. 8, 2010, after a reader contacted The Times about Jimenez's death.]

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Montebello Police Department at (323) 887-1297.

Five reader comments about Jimmy Jimenez

Montebello was such a great city. I believe this is the fith homicide this year. I own several properties in this City and I pay a lot of taxes and each year the Montebello Police as well as the Fire Department don't want the County to take over the critical services the city needs. The Montebello PD has not done their job and need we need the Sherrif's to step in and clean up the city. All I see is the MPD with their brand new vehicles (Doge Charges and Tahoes), which are really nice cars, but it doesn't stop or prevent crime! I wouldn't be suprise if this City as curropt as the City of Bell and Vernon.
