John Wesley Steen, 58, a black man, was beaten to death at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, in the 1100 block of East 103rd Place in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Division are investigating his death.
