Jomo Zambia, 26

Died Nov. 2, 2011

Jomo Zambia, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Nov. 2, near Eucalyptus Avenue and Florence Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Zambia was found with gunshot wounds to the arm and torso after he crashed into an officer's car about 2:30 p.m., the Inglewood police said in a statement.

The officer was making a left turn from eastbound Florence onto northbound Eucalyptus when Zambia's vehicle ran a red light and struck the driver's side of the officer's car.

County firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the officer, who was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, said police Lt. Marie DiBernardo.

Zambia was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not named a suspect in the shooting.

Zambia's sister, Mieshia Zambia, 31, of Palmdale, said her brother had just dropped his girlfriend off at work and was driving back to her place when he was shot, she said. Beyond that, she said, the family knew nothing about the circumstances and is hoping witnesses will come forward with more information.

"We don't know what happened. We don't know why this happened. Any information that anyone has out there would be greatly appreciated," Mieshia said. "We just hope and pray that they find who did this."

She said Zambia shared custody of his 3-year-old daughter. He worked for his father's janitorial service and was hoping to go to school to become a barber.

Inglewood police asked that anyone with information call the tip line at (888) 412-7463.

R.I.P. Young Man! I hope the infamy of Jomo aka @Rosemo700 proves to be a teachable moment not only in the streets of L.A. but around the country. These young guys are thirsting for something more than the streets, but opportunity or opportunities continue to elude those In the inner streets. And until society as a whole wakes up and starts think about more than themselves, I'm afraid this kind of lifestyle will only worsen before things start to get better. Shalom

@peace
There are tons of programs and groups and things to keep people busy and off the streets. Volunteering perhaps? Or check out Heart of LA. It's up to that person to make that decision. We (society) can lead a horse to water, but can't make him drink.

As you read throughout this blog, these kids would rather play with fire and risk dying for streets they don't own. It's a shame...but dont put it on society when there are plenty of options.

Let's not forget God is still in charge. Even though these gangs claim to be so bad god is even badder and i hope who ever did this, turns themselves in and stop all this killing. Remember God's words if your conscience won't condemn you, neither will i. To the family keep praying god is not dead.

The gangs can be controlled if the CA's Government wants to do it.
Bring in the right people and let the gangs pick on somebody their own size. Give the gangs something that shoots back!!
Maybe this seems a little harsh, but nothing else is being done, innocent people and babies are being killed due to gang violence and some just for the short of it. These are humans, not targets!! Take back the control and put gangs where they need to be!!
