Jonathan Fernandez, a 25-year-old Latino man, was shot in the head in the 1900 block of Pine Avenue in Long Beach about 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died. The time of death was recorded at 11:15 a.m.

Three other people were also shot and taken to the hospital; one was in critical condition. According to Long Beach police officials, Fernandez was among a group of people celebrating the new year in the backyard of a house. A gunman shot Fernandez and at the crowd, then fled. Update: Long Beach police have arrested Glenn Cox, 21, and two youths, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, on suspicion of murder. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office filed one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder against all three, and a gang enhancement charge against Cox and the 17-year-old. All three have been documented as gang members.
