Jose Depaz Melgar, a 69-year-old Latino, was beaten to death Wednesday, May 18, in the 2500 block of Beverly Boulevard in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Melgar was found unresponsive on a sidewalk about 8 a.m. Authorities were called and Melgar, who authorities described as a transient, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner's records show the victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head. He may have been kicked and stomped.
