Juan Ortiz, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, May 1, at East Pacific Coast Hwy and East Anaheim Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
According to coroner's records Ortiz and a friend were in a riverbed playing with a shotgun when it accidentaly went off and struck Ortiz. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
