Kashmier James, 25 [Updated]

Died Dec. 25, 2010

Kashmier James

Kashmier James, a 25-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Saturday, Dec. 25, in the 1700 block of West 85th Street in Manchester Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities said that after celebrating the Christmas holiday with family, James was heading home to Riverside when she stopped about 10:20 p.m. to visit a friend.

As James stood in the street outside her friend's home, two men in a blue Chevrolet Tahoe pulled up and stopped, police said. One of the men got out and fired nine shots at James, striking her at least once in the head.

According to coroner's records, she was shot in the cheek and both legs.

James was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 3-year old daughter witnessed the shooting from the back seat of James' car but was unharmed.

Police believe the shooting was gang-related.

[Update Jan. 7: LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Chris Barling said Friday no arrests had been made in connection with the case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Doug Pierce at (213) 485-4341. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.]

SAD ..... this is why we need a preventive lockup for all gangsters regardless of age for as long as it takes. The sociopaths who killed her have no conscience. To them, shes collateral damage. They are the modern version of barbarians and they are past the gates and wrecking society.

And I bet every single one of the members of the gang have an extensive network of enablers to give them cover and a false sense of legitimacy.

For these vicious and evil homicides, the change must come from the people who live there. Get in the face of the do nothing politicians. If they don't come up with answers, then challenge them in the primaries. Stop accepting the status quo.

I have been a family friend since the mid 1990's
Kashmier would wear 2 little jeri curled lookin ponytails in scrunchies!
I remember the Fourth of july at lincoln park when my son and Kash's brother were Batman and Robin for Marcanthony's birthday.
I remember her Champagne Party.
I remember her aunts wedding(kash and her mom were running late)
I remember John having all those fireworks!
More recently,I remember how she spoke to her cousin while he was in a coma back in March of this year.
Just last week her aunt was so proud speaking of her accomplishment of becoming an LVN and landing a good job a month ago!
Kashmier was finding her purpose.
I have to catch myself by not asking GOD WHY?
I will hold onto the fact that she'd begun making major changes in her life,Helping others as an LVN.
I pray that all people who saw anything to come forth. Be an anonymous tip. Whatever will put your mind at ease.
This could be Your Daughter Your Grandaughter.Your Cousin. Your Friend!!!
I really pray that those close to her baby will go the extra mile and help her thru the rough years ahead.
We don'tknow how much of the incident she saw!
God Bless the family and friends dearest to Kashmier and let her memory be like your favorite song.
You know THAT SONG.from 20-30-40 years ago that you still remember all the beats and all the parts?
Let Kashmier's memory be like that song

Syscom3, people believe that your comments are rude but what you write holds SOME TRUTH. However, the solution to this problem doesnt start in the community. Yes, it is important for those living in these crime infested communities to agressively voice their views. However, this goes far deeper than people being active in the community. Some of these "thugs" have been born into these gangs. As you may know, as humans we're often influenced by our external environment. Therefore, these issues have been instilled in these people from birth. This has to start with the parents of these young children. Parents need to educate themselves and adopt new belief systems. This will be the first step in changing the way the community thinks! It's unfair to the police officers who risk their lives and it's unfair to those who live in these communities!

F.Y.I

Believe it or not, gang members to have feelings and belief me these people will be turned in by their own gang...

Gang bangers with feelings...oh I get it, they hurt when their own gets killed, they don't give a damn about anybody nor themselves. What these evil bastards did was murder an innocent human being in front of her child, left a child motherless and haunted. Christmas night huh? Cowards, losers and doomed to hell. Lock all gang members up, regardless...if you want to be affliated with an organization (hardly) then moratoriums need to be put in place and sweep their asses off the streets. If they claim their set they won't hide, but they are roaches, they will run as soon as the light gets turned on. Sorry POS!!

Rest in peace. At some point this stuff has to stop.We have to be more accountable. Why dont all you OG gang members tell your young homies the truth.Gangbanging is the worst thing You can involve your self in.Your going to either die or go to the pen and be forced to join some jail house gang as protection. You can never be the baddest person hes either dead or doing fifty years in the shoe program. We now have a beautiful young mother gunned down in front of her child like a savage. When does the war end?No one is winning. Its just a bunch of dead people, crying familys ,displaced children.ALL GANGS SHOULD STOP .ALL OGS TEACH YOUR LIL HOMIES THE TRUTH AINT NO FUTURE IN LIFE IN THE PEN.

Dear Bernard Parks:

Your silence on the recent gang style killings along Western and elsewhere in District 8 is deafening. Innocent people are killed while you people at City Hall remain sequestered. I am sick of your ineffectiveness and DEMAND you act to make our streets safe for children to play in their yards, for mothers to visit family and friends and for constituents just to be able to walk the streets at night for a little exercise and meditation.

Bernie what do you do all day downtown to earn the two checks you collect each month from the City? I NEVER see you in the District; get no mailings from you until election time when you list your faux “accomplishments”.

You, Trutanich, Baca, Ridley-Thomas and Beck should conduct raids, utilize injunctions and other techniques to send these vermin back to the dank hellholes they belong in. We may not have a Brentwood or Bel Air zip code but the children and families in the 90047 also deserve to live in peace and without fear. TODDLERS should not be witness to their mommy’s murders. Bring in the Feds if need be to rid the Great 8 of the violence. If you don’t do it for south L.A. now, soon these vermin will spread west and north. Will City Hall do something once the 90049 is no safer than the 90047?

i am just so hurt and upset at this situtation I mean how do you just kill a young woman in front of her child. what a coward. I mean no real man would do a thing like this. All i can think about is her daughter that witnessed this whole thing and at 3 years of age you do have a vivid memory. I just hate gang members with all my heart and that is a strong word but they are nothing but cowards and I truly cant stand them. i feel they should all be locked up or put them in war somewhere since they like to shoot people up. i mean seriously on Christmas regardless if they thought it was someone else my question is who woke you up and told you that you can take someones life today. she was someones mother, sister, daughter, cousin, neice, friend and period she was a human. I am just so touched by this issue and I pray that the killers get no rest and until you come clean that God will be all up in your spirit because bottom line you are dead wrong. may she rest in peace and i just pray that God touches her daughter and eases her pain as well. man this is sooooooo sad. God please bless and touch her family in Jesus name.

Reading these posts clearly show the anger against these gang bangers. Only in America that these bangers have rights until they are caught and then be paroled earlier than they should. Alot of these parents are breeding bangers for generation to come so the problem is not going to get better.
The only way to get rid of them is to take away thel rights of gangs & gang parents and view them as terrorist. The ACLU would surely be against this.

@ Cooca shoo
Yes and justifiably so. Because all these proto-fascist proposals on here of treating criminals like terrorists, strip away their rights rararara, is what leads directly into fascism.
Because everyone is affected by that sooner or later. Or do YOU define who a terrorist is? No? Next thing you know is that shoplifters and dissenters will be treated as terrorists too. And then you cant do s**t about it.
Thats why Ben Franklin said:
"Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."
It were situations like this which he had in mind.

This crime really just leaves me so numb, and speechless to know that someone could be so cold-hearted and ruthless to take the life of a young mother with her baby on Christmas day in such a manner!!.

Really, what can one say that could make sense of an act that's so brutal as this?, other than to take a life of a young child in this manner, or anyone's life period!. And it sickens me to know that some cruel animal is just sitting back proud and laughing at what they've did.

I really hope and pray that the animals responsible for such an act is caught, and is prosecuted to the fullest of the law and put down like the animals they are!!!

Lavonna- Just to clarify; My comment about gang members having feelings was written to say that they have a code of ethics..they will not tolerate this type of media attention..I too agree with many of the posts..My questions are how do we change gang traditions? How do we change the belief systems of current gang members? How can we teach them to teach their children that gangs are dead ends?

Most gang members learn the harsh reality of gang life once it's too late! It comes full circle once the homies fail to visit after they've been shot and disabled..then they see that noone had their backs. The sad part is...these people don't value life and have nothing to live for!

Let's not give these cowards the attention they crave!

i hate to say this but i'm guessing it's sinking in now that black and brown just don't count. If it were mainstream communities deluged with senseless murders the gloves would come off. But as long as these communities have a sense of immunity nothing substantively proactive will happen with besieged communities. Just the way it is. Need proof? Look at what Brazil is doing with the favelas now that the Olympics are approaching. Where were these search-and-destroy police dragnets when the average favela dweller was living in fear of drug dealing scum?

There are people that profit from our deaths. They profit from gun and weapon sales, funerals etc. They no longer have to hang and lench us we do it all for them and they no it and ecknowledge it while we continue to be dumb to the facts. We are still slaves to the system. Some of us are still as ignorant as they have wanted us to be. Remeber slaves were not allowed to learn to read. Although we can read today slavery is still alive, in the prisons, in the streets, in our homes and the way we feel about eachother as people of color. Stop the self hate.

Please STOP the Manufacturing of Guns.

My condolences go out to the family, friends, and associates of this young lady. This saddens me deeply. Some inhumane worthless individual killed a Mother in front of her child on Christmas day. Christmas is a day of giving… the celebration of the birth of Jesus and some heartless person stole a mother from a 3 year old child! That is such a haunting experience for that child. Whomever is responsible for this please step up and do what is right. May God bless this family.

Dec. 29, 2010 at 11:40 p.m.

Theres noway this is gang related. Do you know how many cars look alike in L.A, come on people this is just the easy way out for the police. Just because it was two black men, in a blue truck this has to be gang related. The community just belves any thing. They said the truck pulled over to the side and they watched her, the only way this was gang related is if she was a gang member. Those guys knew who they wanted to get, either it could have been road rage, or a ex boyfrnd or anything, like revenge. But to just come right out and say its gang related, is so easy for the LAPD TO SAY THAT and have the community on there side. How would they know its gang related, just buy driving up to the scene, if they could tell that, well hell it shouldnt have took 20 something yrs to find out who the serial killer Mr. Grim was, especially after he worked for the LAPD, and stayed right down the street. Come on south central wake up, because right now yal are being played for fools. This was not gang related, this was personal, remember gangs kill kids too, so why would they not kill the lil girl? This is just something for the LAPD to use to profile, and im sure if you are black in a blue truck right now you have or will be harassed by the police. The community is giving tthe police a reason to profile, beat and jail black and brown men. LAPD do your job, community wake up and realize Columbus didnt discover America, basically what im saying is stop being ignorant.

Maybe we can get the attention of some of the media outlets. If someone from the Times would be interested in helping us get the word out, I'd appreciate this. This is for all the people who complain about LAPD/the authorities designating a lot of these crimes "gang-related": if your position is that these crimes are NOT gang-related, then the 597+ people murdered in LA County in 2010 is a telling and shameful spotlight on the culture of Black and Brown people that has spawned at least 500 murderers that committed the original 597 murders. Don't hate on the authorities when urban culture is more to blame than the police and society. It's the CULTURE that's the problem, not the police. STOP running from the mirror! You might want to turn your nose UP and turn away from snoop dogg, too.

I grew up around here back in the 90's and gangs have always been a problem here. No idea who the shooter is yet but it could be from any set ...

The Rollin' 90's Crips claim turf to the left of Western and the Eight Tray Gangsters patrol the right. They have a pseudo-peace going with the Inglewood Family Bloods.

Below both of them are the Rollin' 100 Crips and the Avenue Piru around 104th to 109th. On the other side of the street, the Denver Lane Bloods ride around Vermont who are cliqued up with the Crenshaw Mafia. There are so many sets entrenched here it gets confusing at times.

oreali...playing the race card again. They say it was gang-related simply because it was in a gang infested area and the shooters were most likely gang members. Why would you have to bring up "racial profiling"? The only way these killings will stop is if sentences get harsher.

@Grim Reaper.....she was not hardly an intended target. So I guess lil Shannon was doing dirt on the down low too and he too was the intended target when he got shot in the head on Halloween. Riddle me that?!! Stop making excuses why these knuckleheads are out here shooting and killing innocent human lives. Who gave them the right to terrorize the community? No one, they are cold heartless cowards who couldnt whoop somebody's ass if they had too. They use guns...Oh so powerful huh? You wanna know what's power? Being educated, compassionate, kind, mature and responsible. They don't love themselves because if they did how could you kill someone who looks just you? It's stupid...People let's do something about this. The only time I hear people talking and community uproar is when a cop shoots somebody's black a**. Nobody hears us because we don't fight for our free right to liberty , justice and peace in our community, if it's not the Blacks it's the Browns. We all live in the same freaking area, nobody else wants to live around us, so to settle that we just kill each other. 600 people killed this year, ridiculous!! This is the only place where people get away with murder!!! Rep your set if you so hard, if you have no fear. You are a coward and a loser, you have nothing. You don't work, you don't support yourself. You don't own sh*t! You don't have shi*, You are just a worthless SOB!!. I despise gangbangers, gang members. A 14-year-old youth was shot and killed Wednesday night while riding a bicycle in South Los Angeles, the latest probable victim of surging violence between two gangs, police said.

Taburi Watson was riding his bike near St. Andrews Place and 87th Street about 7:25 p.m. when one or more assailants fired shots.

More than one bullet struck the teenager, who staggered a short distance from his bicycle and collapsed. Neighbors came outside after hearing shots to find him lying on the ground. Taburi was declared dead after being transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

His death is the fourth in December with probable links to two warring Crips gangs in the Manchester Square and Gramercy Park areas east of Inglewood, Los Angeles Police Det. Eric Crosson said. A family buried one of the victims Thursday, even as the county morgue was arranging to receive Watson's body.

One of the murders was especially high-profile.

Kashmier James, 25, was shot about 10:20 p.m. Christmas night after celebrating the holiday with family. She had stopped to visit a friend in the 1700 block of 85th Street near Western Avenue.

Dec. 30, 2010 at 8:56 p.m.

This is tragic. Poor woman, and poor child. RIP Kashmier James! I seriously want to cry after reading this story. The real problem here is lack of education and lack or parenting. I think education should be heavily enforced in these areas. Children should go to school, and they should have several extracuricular activities to keep them entertained and motivated to live a clean life. These kids have no direction in their lives, and no one is forcing them to stay in school to eventually get to college, therefore they drop out of school and join gangs.

I'm sorry, but some people should NOT be allowed to have children. We should give out sex education and free birth control/condoms to all the people in south central as early as they are 10 years old to inform them about their bodies and reproductive systems. This will prevent a lot of unplanned pregnancies, and will prevent a lot of bad parents from being made!

@Reggy..agreed....However, God helps those that can't help themselves also. But I agree totally that our community must stand up, and stop relying on others outside our community to stand up for us. Parks too has been a victim of this cycle with his own grandchild shot dead on the streets. The problem is not bigger than us, a lot of people are just conditioned to think that this is the way it is suppose to be. We mad it this way....I work for the County and all day everyday I see countless number of young pregnant girls applying for aid...can't read, cannot express themselves without cursing you out, it's pitiful. I am thankful that I have a job but it is very depressing to see this cycle. I just feel very sorry for the babies that are born to some of these young people. They havent a clue, neither mother or child.

— Daphne Lee; .... I do not envy you. Just wait until the big budget cuts that are coming our way impacts your office. You are going to see some upset young ladies realizing that society is tired of and will no longer support them.

Poverty is the number one producer of gangsters. Only a thriving economy can alleviate it. And untill we come to grips on the root causes; illegal immigration, over regulated business environment, dysfunctional "breeders" (like you mentioned) and a failed education system; then we will not solve this issue.

Why? What has been gained from this murder? Who benefits? What does it profit a man to gain the world but lose his soul? R.I.P Kashmier, my heart goes out to you..you should be here with your beautiful little girl. Gang members FYI.. you are not gaining anything from murdering people..you 'll see..ask people in prison..it's all a scam, a lie. Your dead homies felt pain when they were killed, they wanted to live, if they could do it over again, trust me they would have chosen to live... WAKE UP! Soon death too will be knocking at your door, and what a waste of money to have to try and give you a decent burial because we all know you don't have a pot to piss in, aint nothing cool about it no matter what you think. You wake up everyday to you, how depressing huh? Murdering people does not make people have respect for you only disdain. Your actions are Despicable! I truly feel sorry for your mother's to have had birthed such beings. I feel sorry for your children, because they will suffer from your sins if they don't get away from you, I feel sorry for some chick who thinks she loves you, she has no self worth, or esteem. Where's snoop dogg, dr. dre, too-short, warren-g, the game, and all those other little despots who've made "careers" of aiding and abetting the mind-set and dark spirits of thuggery and gangsta lifestyle primarily in LA County and across the country??? I don't see them renouncing the lifestyle that's indirectly led to the deaths of all these innocent people. Why not? B/C they all have sold their souls to Satan. And you people who buy their meaningless product and support them are a BIG part of the problem. They flaunt and promote gangsterism in your faces... and you STILL buy their music. Despise them! Dishonor them! De-commune them! Mock them for the updated Stepin Fetchits that they are! SMDH!

its very sad about the killings that go on in the los angeles area over and over again,im 40 years old and born and raised in los angeles,I went to washington high school and have seen it and heard it all! what is funny to me about the hard-ass gang bangers is that when they get there sentences for doing all there stupid sh-t (which is years )they file appeals when locked up so they can overturn their cases so they can get out! at the same time you have seen your homies and family members do the same sh-t and get stretched but still you do the exact same sh-t and cant understand your outcome, the whole thing is very sad because it seems like some of us are stuck in slavery and still harm our own.No on wins at all! Is there a solution close at hand!! ONLY GOD KNOWS!!

C-gas i aint playin the race card all im saying is how can they just ride up and say its gang related. She could have been arguing with somebody while driving and it could be road rage. so for the cops to just roll up because its in a gang area and proclaim its gang related is jumping to conclusion without even investigating. #1 they said the truck pulled over and watched her, well how the hell is that mistaking identity? #2 gangs kill kids!#3 its just so easy to say its gang related, if they can tell that just by driving up, they should be able to tell who did it, how old they are and what color draws they had on. and at chkn lilathome you need to stop running at night with that sheet on, and come to the light. I am a officer of the law thats why im questioning how can they just roll up to a scene and in 10min's state who and what killed her.

c-gas and redbone your comments annoy me: Are you really envious of the publicity and outrage this woman's death has caused? Ms. James' murder is important and stands out because she was a young mother killed on Christmas in front of her young child. The dregs of society who killed her, had they been raised and educated properly, should have been home with their own families on this holiday instead of destroying another family. I don't think the $50k reward is large enough; it should at least be doubled. Of course the best scenario would be that someone who knows these murderers would simply do the right thing and come forward to name them without any promise of payment. If it was your mother, your daughter or friend brutally murdered wouldn’t you want their killers brought to justice?

This is a very unsettling and strange murder. She lives in Riverside so it seems unlikely that she would be involved in the gangs local to this area. It also seems like the shooter took a good long look at her so the murder seems very deliberate, like the shooter knew her. And to unload nine shots seems like a crime of passion and not a typical gang hit. For these guys to be in position at that time with her stopping by just briefly, makes me wonder if she was set up. Perhaps the person she was visiting let these guys know she was coming over? There's something fishy about this.

Some people just never get it. This young lady was murdered in cold blood. Cowards and bullies are to blame. Our people are dying at an alarming rate. There is a mother and father now without a daughter. There is a little girl without a mother. If indeed she was murdered by gangbangers they to should rot in hell. The judicial systems should start making it a mandatory death sentence for people charged and convicted of murders of this type. Go to hell you sorry suckers(gangbangers).

Blame the politicians, blame the bangers ... better yet, blame yourselves. It's your community and your responsibility. I had a group of bangers hanging outside my house for months. My neighbors kept their heads down and don't want to get involved. There were two shootings during the summer where these idiots were involved. My neighbors did nothing but keep their head down. I called the police; attended city sponsored meetings and worked with my council member. I met personally with police officers and gang detail. I met with gang outreach workers. The area in question is now quiet. These gangsters knew where I lived, they knew my face ... but this is MY neighborhood, not theirs.

By the way, my neighbors were white, wealthy and educated ... very few got involved and did something about our problem; some did and we DID something about it.

You can keep blaming politicians, the police and praying to God ... but if you do NOTHING, you're the ones to blame. The Mayor isn't your father, the cops are not your personal security force and faith without acts is dead.

What kind of neighborhood do you want to live in? If you can't move, then improve your situation.

We all agree that these bastards are nothing more than uneducated, worthless drains on society. You call them cowards .... then what are you if you don't do anything yourself to combat them?

As you don't believe in hell most likely you don't believe in Heaven either. How sad for you, but that may explain your unfortunate choice of moniker. BTW, Ms. James' daughter's name is Nevaeh; Heaven spelled backwards if news reports are accurate. I'm sure her soul is resting there now as she watches over her beautiful little girl. I hope someone on earth will soon be moved to turn in the two children of satan who killed her.

— LilySweet
Jan. 4, 2011 at 12:44 p.m.

@LilySweet: Hell and Sin do not exist. This is a scientific fact. It is also a fact that evil people exist. Evil is manifested when people do bad things. Only humans can perform evil acts. It is what makes us human. Every day each of us has the choice to be or not to be evil. Ms. James' murders made their choice. Now Society must ask The Higher Power to assist the authorities in bringing these evil doers to Justice.

— Caligula
Jan. 5, 2011 at 11:26 a.m.

“Professor” Caligula What scientific evidence do you offer that hell and sin does not exist? Anyone can make statements and arrange statistics to support any crackpot theory they want. I believe every time a thug kills a child, a grandmother, a mother or even another thug that he has sinned against God. Every time you rape, kidnap, or harm a defenseless person or animal you have sinned. As for hell, I suggest incarcerating these monsters with prisoners from rival gangs such as the Aryan brotherhood is a good start. Their souls are damned for killing this beautiful young mother and when they die their sins will not go unpunished.

I pray to God that the family, friends or associates of the evil, murderous hell bound thugs who killed Ms. James will do the right thing and turn them in. Can you really live happily and be content if they kill another mother or perhaps a child next time? If you can then you are no better than these animals you are protecting. What if they turn on you like the gang banger “boyfriend” who set afire the mother of his child? These killers deserve their fate.

— LilySweet
Jan. 6, 2011 at 9:47 a.m.

Homicides are considered gang-related if any party involved is in a gang. If a gang member kills a girlfriend or boyfriend because of jealousy...the murder is considered gang-related.

Gang members these days are reckless w/o a major plan for life. In the end, the victims family and the killer's family both loose a loved one.

There is much more to this story than what is being published. At first I thought maybe an ex-boyfriend etc. but as the streets began to talk, the picture was clear! Another innocent person at the wrong place at the wrong time. With that being said, God's will supercedes any gang, politician or police!

Parents must be accountable for their offspring. However, some parents only know that lifestyle. There are many community activist that work to end violence. YOU must do your part to serve YOUR community bottomline! Either when you see youngters passing by or at the store, that is your opportunity to inspire and educate! Pray for guidance and HE will give you the words to say! #justice4kash

@ Lily Sweet, This blogger is merely trying to take our attention away from what this topic is really about. He has had his less than 15 minutes..let's move on. R.I.P Kashmier... It's funny how some people have gotten this young lady's life all summed up. People just think if it was your daughter, mother, sister, or aunt. Think before you speak. If you have some credible information regarding this murder call the police!! I know this a blog and people can speak freely, but at the same time have respect. We are adults (i hope), that's half the problem now, so called adults are not teaching these young kids the right thing, so society is left to deal with it.

— justwantedtosay
Jan. 6, 2011 at 6:22 p.m.

Praying4peace...i know you mean well but I'm thinking If a "gangbanger" kills his ex-girlfriends boyfriend because of jealousy, they would not call it a gang related shooting. They would call it a domestic related killing. They only classified this murder gang-related shooting because their assumption was the two men were gangmembers shooting at their rival. (Because of the shootings that have already gone on in that area) If an innocent bystander gets killed it's still classified as a gang shooting because of the killers intent (shooting a rival) regardless of who gets shot. I don't think the medias intent is to disrespect the hood, It is what it is. They getting a story.
On the otherhand, I don't know how they knew the shooters were gangmembers unless witnesses stated they threw up their signs and hollered it out the window. and then we don't know everything because it's not for us too know it all, we would probably put it on the this blog and spill the beans.

Just in, KASHMIER's killers are in custody. 2 girls and 2 guys, and she was the intended target. Apparently, female suspect and Kashmier have been feuding, and suspect alledgely posted on Facebook that she was going to get her. Perhaps the visit to a friends house was a set up..SMDH.

— Lisa
Jan. 6, 2011 at 8:35 p.m.

@CandyCane and everyone else: There is no legal or moral justification for what these killers did.

In fact, if their killing was due to mistaken identity or bad aim, they will be charged with 2nd degree murder and prison time. If they were actually lying in wait for her, the charge will be 1st degree murder and the death penalty upon conviction.

We need to keep our eye on the ball: which is to convince the community to turn in these murders.

@Noelle Justice, your words were so powerful thank you for voicing your frustration in such an eloquent manner. Your blog should be sent directly to Bernie as you called him, it may insight action.

When this story first aired I never saw her picture and they didnt call her by name - it was only noted as a homicide of a young mother in the beginning. This vague description didnt give me a distinctive "Yes, you know who this is" - However in my heart I was greatly saddened for her and her family so I immediately prayed for God's provision.

Today, to my horror, I found out that in fact I did now this beautiful butterfly - she was full of love, life and laughter. She was her mother's only girl. They were soooooooo close, their Mother to daughter relationship should be modeled.

I am deflated and disheartened. I am so pissed that another senseless killing took place. I cant stop smh and my tears seem to be never ending. My stomach is in knots I am saddened for her mother and her baby. The reality of this is surreal.

It is awful that our young men spend much of their time sagging their pants, putting notches in their belt and tatooes on their chest........while forgetting to honor and value family, love "people" and educate themselves.

I wont write this blog and direct it toward the gang member - he wont read it anyway. I will however commit myself to build, admonish, encourage, uplift, educate, empower, direct and redirect, and "pray for" not "prey on" the young men I come in contact with..... to bring a new hope and direction to our little boys who are searching and who are evil driven. This has to stop...

Kash rest in peace honey and spread your wings. May God forever guide the footsteps of your baby and bring her fullness, that she may not have any voids in her life because of your absence. May your mom be free from dispair, anguish, saddeness, pain and hurt. Let her memories of you bring her joy and assist her with easing the pain of your passing... Thank you for your smile

@Caligula...at what point did I try to legally or morally try to justify what has happened to Kashmiers? Reread all of your idiotic hypocritical comments about her killers won't be caught, there is no hell, blah blah blah. Two bloggers were merely discussing how they classify homicides, and than you chimed in with your rhetoric comments. Looks as though you need to keep your eyes on the ball. R.I.P Kashmier James, your killers will be brought to justice and if they die without asking for forgiveness and true repentance in their hearts they will see Hell.

Eastside..be QUIET!!! What neighborhood do you live in where you have wealthy white neighbors with gangmembers hanging in front of houses? STHU!!! You are a liar. Don't tell these people on here to Blame themselves because they won't speak up. Some could really have fear of retaliation..no one wants to die EASTSIDE. They do have a right to be afraid...doesn't make it their fault..Politicians..yes they need to represent the community that they are in office for...if they don't, do not vote for them. What councilman for their district, or Mayor sits back and watches these types of events and just offers reward money? Moratoriums should be in place, gang injunctions that are enforced. Gang sweeps, all of those polaroid pictures that police officers take offers of gang members should be pulled out of files and they should be looked into. If you are an active gang member than you are admitting to gang activity. Gang affliation should be illegal. So that means you go to jail..not fined...build a jail for gang members. Our tax money is wasted on a lot of things that we do nothing about, so my tax dollars used to take on gang members is not a problem. The community does have a responsibility to stand up for themselves so these things do not happen so often...but for you to come on a blog and say what you did for your fantasy neighborhood is not cool. GANG BANGERS do not hang out in front of wealthy neigborhoods for weeks. Unless they are planning to do a home invasion. If they were just hanging out they would be immediately swept up on site. Gangbangers revenue is robbing, burglary, and drugs. They don't have anything to call their own, they live with their mama's, baby mama's, baby mama's mama. They don't work or go to school...they collect GR, welfare, SSI, they do not support themselves..if they had something worthwhile, jobs, property, education etc. They would not have time to think about taking somebody else's. So their whole thing has been placing fear in the community with their evil deeds because nobody has made gang affliation a CRIME!

— Lavonna
Jan. 9, 2011 at 8:13 a.m.

— Lavonna .... all those things you listed is are wonderfull ideas. Holding politicians accountable is what the community can do. But pressure in no uncertain terms must also be applied to the state and federal courts. Many civil rights groups oppose even the most common sense ideas, just out of principal.

And you can bet not one judge or ACLU/MALDEF attorney lives in these killing field neighborhoods!

Well, if one knows how to look, listen, and most importantly use social networks... You can find out anything. It seems miss james was not a random victim but a participant. This was a gang shooting, just as her mother alluded to on the news interview. Friends on her facebook page have seemed to slip up and say H.I.P in place of RIP. In this case H.I.P means "hoover in peace" hoover being the name of a los Angeles Crip gang. Still, this was a senseless crime.

Kashmier James was a 25 year old mother making a way for her and her 3 yr old daughter not involved in any way with a gang just visiting a friend on Christmas day .People wake up and look what is happening in your communities, these killings need to stop, my babygirl is gone ,her daughter will never know her mom she will be damaged from this horrific tradgedy, when they killed my baby ,they killed me too. I am so amazed how people are quick to judge a person and try to justify what these heartless people are out here doing .
It is time for a change and we are here to make one.
In honor of my baby , My best Friend the Kashmier James foundation has been established and we will be workking hard to find her killers and others out there when they took her life they were unaware that they were dealing with a child of God -thats why it is published and awards God doesnot let his children go harmed without answers .if you want to make a difference please contact us at Kashmierjames.com

Friends, family members and community a break in the death of Kashmier james has not occurred as of yet .The reward was raised to$75,000, I know that there is some one out there with viable information that could give a little rest to me and the other family members and friends...This sensleless killing of my daughter will never ever take the image that I seen of her laying on christmas day in the street,on the cold ground under a tent away ,I died on that street that night as well just as a part of her daughter did ,to see her mom get shot, for her to be taken away by the police to the police station to be picked up by family members,to really know that some gun that was shot took her mother away from here.
People please wwake up this little girl will never know what it is to share her cheerleader, reportcards, happy stories, sad stories just everyday little girl things with her mom ,no more tea parties, picking of prom dresses, this baby has been robbed of life with her mother and everyone sits back and lets the killers walk the street free.
Me as her mother no more late night talks, no picking of the perfect wedding location and dress, her inspirationals to me and everyone else

I am just sick with it that for the people that live on the street or surrounding area that are keeping quite you are just as sinful as the murderers .God says do his sheep no harm ... And when they murdered my baby who was a God fearing young woman ,a excellent mother, friend, daughter one that would not and could not change for the world.....
They have brought calamity to themselves and for everyone that knows something and are not speaking you might as well pulled the trigger because you are protecting murders.... not being a snitch to do right in the eyes of God everyone has a judgement day.....
Thank God I know that Kashmier lived to be NOTW....
Gang members what happened to your code of honor seems like all of you are cowards noone kills a female or child especially a female in front of her baby ... Cowards ....Cowards....

turn yourself in or assist in finding the killer you live by the sword you die by it tenfold

I pray they get no comfort or peace until they turn themselves in. I pray that everyone who knows what happened is troubled in their mind and spirit. I pray That Kashmier's family is comforted by the spirit of the Lord and that He gives you all His peace during this time. He is going to give you justice. The Lord is going to bring you peace.

It is sad~ I lost a nephew the same way in LA~Jealousy is a very insidious mind controlling killer,Americans have this gene, no matter their color~
Don't know the story, it just smacks of jealousy~How did we get to a place of hating woman?
I know there are woman who cause hate, I know. How we react to hate is also important to the survival of our peoples.
I advise that we chose friends that have our back. Stay out of the way of those who seem to attract evil.

May this family have peace and Jus-Us.

This is just horrendous! America has got to get rid of all the Handguns- I don't know how, but get rid of them. We have too many murders in New Zealand but not like in L.A because we don't have anyone running around with Handgun's!

— Craig
July 10, 2011 at 2:49 a.m.

— Craig; have you ever looked at the geographical distribution of these crimes. A huge number of them occur in certain neighborhoods.

In many areas, years (if not decades) can go by before a homicide occurs.

— syscom3
July 11, 2011 at 2:27 p.m.

Craig,

On the contrary. The day they abolish the right to bear arms is the day the murder rate magnifies. Removing that right won't keep guns out of killers' hands, but would remove them from people who use them as intended, for self defense. After all, guns don't kill people; the unlicensed, cowardly thugs that misuse them do!

Remember, it isn't the registered, licensed gun owners that commit these crimes. In fact doctors kill more people per year than we do.

I would feel safer knowing that not only myself, but other registered responsible gun owners were packing at all times!!! At least cowards like this would think twice about rolling up on innocent people.

I hope to God that justice prevails and the family and friends can finally find a sense of closure.

R.I.P.

UPDATE on this case:

3 men were arrested and charged with the murder and attempted murder of Ms. Kashmier James yesterday, Aug 30th, 2011. My condolences go out to the family of Ms. James. I have been following this case very closely since it occurred (a few blocks from where I once lived) and sincerely hope that no one else has to go through the pain and suffering that this young lady's family has gone through. Hopefully, these men will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
