Kevin Bautista, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, March 27, in the 1600 block of West 84th Street in Manchester Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
According to an LAPD news release, Bautista was sitting in the passenger seat of his car about 6:15 p.m. "when a man and woman drove up in a gray sedan and stopped at the southeast corner of 84th Street and Harvard Boulevard."
Police allege the man, described as black and between 17 and 20, got out of his car, walked back to where Bautista was sitting and shot him. The woman did not exit the vehicle, police said. Witnesses told police the pair then drove north on Harvard Boulevard.
Bautista was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m.
Authorities described the shooting as gang-related. Anyone with information is asked to call Criminal Gang Homicide Dets. E. Mendoza and C. Braudrick at (213) 485-1383. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.

We love you lil brother and we will truly miss you. It's been very hard telling your nieces, friends and other family the news. For those that didn't know you, you were a gentle giant. Kevin was their for all of us and had a smile that could uplift anyone. He had a bright future ahead of him as Firefighter. We all miss you and mourn daily wishing you were here.We miss you and will see you at the crossroads.

I'm surprised black people are not placed on the endangered species list with the amount that kill each other over there in the U.S.

We saw Kevin at least everyday. The last thing you would see when he would leave is that broad smile that stretched his face.
We pray that his family is comforted in this time of sorrow.
On a side note it is sad that when a non-gang affiliated individual is killed in these communities by a suspected or known gang member that is is summed up to be a gang related killing and then those who hear or read about it dismissed it as "getting what he deserved". That is a tragedy in itself.

DAMN RIGHT IN THE HEART OF THERE HOOD MABYE THIS WAS PAYBACK FOR THE EARLIER ONE IF IT WAS THEM WHO DID IT TO THE 65'S OR IT MUSTA BEEN THE RNC'S DOUBT IF IT WAS THE R60'S

Kevin was a very special person that had a smile, personality, and a spirit that could light up any room. It is truly sad that the media/authorities decided to lump the victims in the same category as the criminal. Make no mistake about it, Kevin was not in any gang, he solely focused on improving his life and the lives of others around him through working and going to school. He will be missed and he will forever be cherished in our hearts.

I'm still cominig to grips with the fact that he is gone. Kevin was extremely sweet and his smile was amazing! I'm more upset with myself for not giving him a chance. Another young angel taken for no reason. I will personally miss Kevin and simply regret I didnt spend more time with him.

NSR... It could of been the 90's or the 60's neither like the ETGs. Then again it could of been anyone. thats a wide street and many hoods ride through there daily. its a straight shot from one side of 84th to the next. Could have been anyone. Still a very sad situation none the less. I feel for the family.

Yet again another senseless act. We need to contact the media to get this message out. It is our black and lantino men that is being killed for no reason. Let this was white kids being killed they would have the whole state under lock down. Young black men and latino men this must stop. Your soul will pay for it in the end. Even if you get away with a murder God knows and see everything that you do and trust me you will pay for it. It is not fair that someone who has something to live for is taken away from their families because someone wants to prove something to their boys. We this message goes out to the killers. If you have to listen to your boys for taken an innocent life you are not a man but somebody's bitch! Really is it worth your soul spending enternity in hell. Well I hope it was worth it because you will pay for it soon or later. Burning in hell forever is not worth trying to be hard. Grow up and be men instead of punks to another man.

"Stop the killings" made the comment that if this type of widespread violence happened to white kids, "they would have the whole state under lock down." I'm sorry, but white politicians, police officials, and leaders (actually, any leaders of any race) have to be very, very sensitive and careful and politically-correct when dealing with issues related to African-Americans and Latinos.
Look at how many people take offense with even a simple issue like identifying the race of the victims or perpetrators. I'm sad to say that the answers to black-on-black or Latino-on-Latino gang killings will probably have to come from the black or Latino communities themselves. Any white leader who tries to crack down too hard on gangs will be branded a racist, a label which no white person wants.
