Kevivon Brown, a 22-year-old black man, died Friday, Sept. 16, less than two months after he was stabbed in the 500 block of South San Pedro Street in downtown Los Angeles, according to L.A. County coroner's records.

Brown, of Pomona, visited skid row often, and on July 29 he got into a fight over drugs and money with Melvin Parker, a 32-year-old black man, police said.

Officials said that during their altercation, Parker stabbed Brown in the face and chest.

Authorities were called, and the victim was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death  Sept. 16. Coroner's records show Brown suffered 10 stab wounds to his body.

A day after the stabbing, Parker was found in a motel and was arrested, police said. Additionally, a woman who was with him, identified as Willina Patterson, was arrested in connection with an unrelated slaying.

Parker was charged with murder and is being held in lieu of $2.14-million bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 3 in L.A. County Superior Court.
