Kim Odom, 45

Died April 20, 2012

Kim Odom, a 45-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Friday, April 20, in the 1200 block of Meadow Circle in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Deputies responded to a call regarding a spousal assault about 5 a.m. and apprehended a man sitting on the steps outside an apartment, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

When authorities went into the residence they found Odom with several gunshot wounds to her body. Paramedics were called and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives learned the man sitting on the steps was the victim's boyfriend and he was arrested on suspicion of murder, officials said.

The alleged shooter has been identified as Ron Hamilton, a 47-year-old black man. He is currently being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Men's Central Jail in downtown.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 8 at the M.D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Court in Lancaster.

Two reader comments about Kim Odom

Kim was my cousin and we grew up together. She was my best friend and I will truly miss her. I just found out Sunday 06/10/12 about her tragic passing and I am so sad to her that her life was so selfishly taking away. She was a beautiful person. Even though we were distant cousins she was like a baby sister to me. May God Bless and keep her.
