Lawrence Crosby, a 50-year-old black man, died Monday, Sept. 7, of an unknown cause, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

He was found dead in the back of an alley in the 5900 block of South Mettler Avenue in Florence at 11:42 a.m. An initial coroner's investigation showed no obvious trauma, and Crosby's cause of death has been deferred pending additional tests, coroner's officials said.

[Updated on April 22, 2010: The Times contacted the coroner's office and officials said Crosby's death was ruled an accident. Crosby was living with dilated cardiamyopthay, or an enlarged heart. At the time of his death, he was also using cocaine. The drug use coupled with his condition made his heart give out.]
