Lorenzo Smith, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, April 17, in the 1600 block of N. La Brea Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Smith, of South Los Angeles, was attending a party about 3:10 a.m. when he was shot by an unknown male during a dispute, Los Angeles police Officer Catherine Massey said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene about half an hour later.
One other person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, Massey said. Authorities believe the shooting was gang-related.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call homicide detectives with the Hollywood station at (213) 972-2910. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

I am DEEPLY saddened to hear about Lorenzo's death. I heard him speak about three weeks ago at Boeing on behalf of Homeboy Industries. He was so excited about life and had so much promise. He shared his life story with about 200 strangers! I understand it was his first time speaking in public and he did an awesome job. I pray that his family will find peace through all of this and that whoever took his life will be rewarded for his deeds. I believe that Lorenzo is walking those streets of gold enjoying heaven and now praying even harder for Homeboy Industries to continue!

I recently had the privilege to hear Lorenzo speak in front of 200 Boeing employees. If you could only see the excitement Lorenzo expressed towards his future and how proud he was to be part of Homeboy Industries. When I heard the news today, I couldn't help but cry. One thing that stuck in my mind about him was when he talked about his mom. He said she was always there for him - no matter what! He truely appreciated her and it is sad to know she is suffering the loss of him now. My thoughts and prayers are with Lorenzo's family and friends.

It has been a week now. i have never felt this pain in my entire life it hurts so terribly bad.lorenzo is my first born son and as a mother I was truly able to witness his transformation with his entire life. He kissed me on my cheek last Saturday night and said I love u lady I will be back and left to drop off his girlfriend and pick up his best friend. I know that he didn’t know that he was not coming home that night. i am terribly saddened and my entire family his sisters and brothers and nieces and nephews are totally devastated.

I did not know Lorenzo, but by the comments on here he was loved by many. By the comments on here he impressed people with his speech the he gave at Boeing. It sounds like his life was moving in the right direction. I pray that God will give you and your family Peace during this time and forever.

Someone Special - what exactly do you want to know. It might help if you said "Is this the Lorenzo that went to so and so high school?" or "is this the Lorenzo from such and such gang?" all you're saying is "I knew a Lorenzo that was 22, is this the same one?" that really doesn't help anyone or yourself. Be more specific with your questions.

God bless a mother who has lost a child. I didn't know this young man or his mother, but we share the name and after getting call after call I had to seek out what was going on. I'm truly sad to have to read about another young man gunned down. This one shocked me cause my own mother called me crying with relief that I answered. My God bless your family! Lorenzo S. Smith

im a friend of Brittnay the 23 year old the media told you about. they put her out to be so bad & slandered her name horribly. what they didnt tell you was she is a 23 year old Nurse,independent mother of a 3 year old, working hard & trying to survive off welfare,victim of domestic violence. Yes she's Guilty of being at an after hour club knowing she had work the next morning. but she is NOT GUILTY for being accesory to Lorenzo Smith murder. I truly feel for his family I know how life is. Her son truly need her jus as well as Lorenzo needed his mom. Its sad how they trying to drag her under and put her out to be so evil. But i keep my FAITH & i TRUST in GOD with my WHOLE HEART. and the truth shall set her FREE. . what ever happen to being innocent until proven Guilty??

so let me get this strait, you come on this site the victim's site and claim your "bro" is innocent? Do you not have the sense God gave gnat? Since when is it ever okay to go to the victims site and proclaim the innocence of the accused? Do you think doing that is goin get him sympathy? Or may be you are looking for something else? I'm not quite sure where you got the idea that going on to the victim's site whether this one or another was an okay thing to do but it isn't. You are right, innocent until proven guilty...but by coming on this site your written statement goes a much futher to tilting the scales to guilty then not guilty. Good luck with your next statement.
