Luis Delgado, 33

Died Aug. 15, 2010

Luis Delgado, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Aug. 15, near Saticoy Street and Gaynor Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

West Valley police officers responded to a 911 call of a shooting about 9:47 p.m., according to an LAPD news release. When authorities arrived, they found Delgado on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called, and Delgado was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators believe Delgado was driving his car in the area of Saticoy Street and Gaynor Avenue when he got into a verbal exchange with a man in another car. Officials said both men pulled out guns and began firing between the cars. During the exchange of gunfire, Delgado was hit. It is unknown if the other man suffered any injuries, authorities said.

Witnesses described the alleged shooter as a Latino, 20 to 25 years old, with a shaved head. He was last seen driving westbound on Saticoy Street in a red compact 4-door sedan.

The shooting appears to have been gang-related, authorities said.

[Note: This homicide did not appear on a coroner's report released Monday. It was added Aug. 26, 2010, after The Times learned about the homicide in a news release.]

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact West Valley Division Homicide Det. John Doerbecker at (818) 374-7713. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

Paloma - What in the world are you TRYING to say? Your grammar is horrendous? Why is this posted if it can't be understood or even read properly?

Meck,

Obviously, english is a second language for Paloma. Are you really that narrow minded? Can't you figure out what she's trying to say? Give her a break. Try writing something in spanish, you moron.

John - I tried to figure out what she was trying to say. It's next to impossible. As for me, I can read, write, and speak, both English and Spanish. El menso eres tu.

Meck, I agree with you that some of these posts are very difficult to decipher. I would also say that having so very many people in our society who can't effectively communicate in English is becoming a major burden on us all...especially our public schools. As to this gang banger here shooting from car to car, perhaps what she meant to say was: 'Pobre pes, pescado es'. Cheers!

You guys prefer fighting about each others words than talking about this guys death? Why are you all here??

— Dubya B, the grammar and spelling for many of the people who post here is germane to the subject. It's prime evidence of the failure of the school system and/or the failure of the individual to communicate with others.

Wherever you find a failed school system, you will find urban violence.

while palomas writing is elementary, it is understandable.

at least it was to me.
to paraphrase:
the valley is a dangerous area. it is only for people/families with gang relations. the most dangerous places are panorama city, van nuys, north hills, arleta. particularly bad is the Blythe st. area. many familys are related to the gang members and mafia.

not very hard to understand.

but a lot of assumptions are made about the first poster. who knows if she was even educated in the US, hence it is NOT important in the discussion in this forum.

its most likely a person whos second language is english.

she has the right to express herself as best she can. the difference is that her butchering of the english language is not purposeful. its not short hand text. its not hood speak. its her best attempt to explain to us how dangerous this part of the city is.

i got it.

I have to agree with consensus, very hard to read , almost dreadful. Race on Race crime is very foolish.
