Luis Diaz, 27 [Updated]

Died Dec. 15, 2010

Luis Diaz, a 27-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Wednesday, Dec. 15, in the 2600 block of East 3rd Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Diaz was shot several times about 12:10 a.m. He was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he died 45 minutes later.

The incident appeared to be a walk-up shooting, Winter said. The coroner's office had no additional information on the case.

The Times has contacted investigators to get more details about the shooting, and will include an update as soon as information becomes available.

[Updated Dec. 29: Det. R. Chavarria of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Division said no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The gunman was described only as a Latino.

At the time, it is unknown if the killing was gang-related, he said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Dets. Victor Marin or Doug Kirkland at (323) 342-2961. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.]
