Luis Palomera, 25 [Updated]
Died May 21, 2010 at 8:06 p.m.
Luis Palomera, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot to death Friday, May 21, in the 13000 block of Earl Street in Baldwin Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Palomera was in a back yard about 7:50 p.m. when an unknown assailant drove through an alley and shot him, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
Authorities were called, and Palomera was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.
Another Latino was shot, according to a sheriff press release, and he was taken to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Detectives have determined the shooting was gang-related.
[Update May 25: Shortly before the attack, Palomera and the man who was wounded had gotten into an altercation at a liquor store with a man authorities believe was involved in the shooting, said Sgt. Barry Hall, who is handling the investigation.
While Palomera went into the store to purchase a beer, Hall said the friend told authorities he stayed in the vehicle and got into a staring contest with a man who was sitting in another car. According to his account, that man then pulled out a gun. Afraid, Palomera's friend got out of the car and ran to Palomera's residence. When Palomera exited the liquor store, the man who allegedly pulled a gun on his friend approached Palomera and hit him over the head with the gun, Hall said.
At that point, Palomera drove his car home where he and his friend stood in the backyard exchanging stories about what occurred at the liquor store. Authorities believe the same assailant drove through the alley and shot at them, Hall said.
Either Palomera or the friend returned fire, Hall said, although it was unclear who shot back.
Investigators are looking for two Latinos, believed to be 18 to 25, in connection with the shooting. The vehicle they were driving was described as a white Dodge Dakota.]
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sgt. Barry Hall or Rick Biddle at the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.

I hold back from mad dogging... it can be a death sentence. Egos need to flare down. Sad news... drive by's are NOT allowed in Los Angeles. You get the "greenlight". Only child molesters desrve a bullet to the face.

— Big R-; what do you mean drive by's are not allowed in Los Angeles?

I agree with Big R. I never used to mad dog. Like he said its a pssible death sentence. I lived in LA right off century and western. I made it through many days by carrying myself a certain way and making sure that when someone stared hard at me I did what it took to make sure I made it home. Most of the time it would be looking the other way. It didnt make me feel like a punk. It made me feel glad to know that I realized my manhood wasnt defined by a staring contest.

Wow, another killing of a young man. This occured near my home. I agree with some of the comments stated above. Loosing a life over "mad-dogging" is ridicously.

Arturo I miss you so much, still can't believe you are gone. I'm sorry I never told you that I loved you, but I hope you knew in your heart how much I care for you and all my family. The only thing that is holding us together is my family and knowing that your baby is almost here. I still have hope in my heart that these people will be caught soon!!!

You ask for the person that did this to your son to turn themselves in? The person responsible for your son's death is his friend- he was in your son's car "mad - dogging" some other thug and when the other thug scared him he got out and ran to your son's house, then the thug hit your son in the head and your son then came home, he did not know that his "friend" had signed his death warrant so he walked into a trap set by his scary "friend". The killer is in your house, crying with you and vowing to get the people who did this to Luis-HE IS THE ONE WHO TOOK YOUR SON AWAY-JUST BECAUSE HE DID NOT PULL THE TRIGGER ON THE GUN, DOES NOT MEAN HE DID NOT PULL THE TRIGGER ON LUIS' DEATH. IF HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A WEAK MAN AND STARTED A "MAD-DOG" CONTEST HE KNEW HE WOULD LOSE YOUR SON WOULD BE ALIVE. SO ASK HIM TO TURN HIS SELF IN FOR THE MURDER OF LUIS PALOMERA. CASE CLOSED

i think the person who killed this young father to be is a lowlife. but his friend started all this. Tell me "friend" was losing your friend Luis worth the cowardly way you set him up? Seeing his mother and soon to be baby mother go throug this,do you feel guilt? you should

How totally wrong you are Joker and hOODLIFE. This friend may have looked at the creep who did this horrible crime and yes that was foolish especially in this town. However you're saying he set Mr. Palomera up??? It seems to me this friend was attacked right along side Mr. Palomera and could very easily have joined him in the morgue. Please remember it was the scumbag probably gang member thugs with their messed up twisted macho crap that decided someone looking/staring at you is cause for murder. Good grief!
June 15, 2010 at 1:51 p.m.
Staring at someone should not be the cause of a homicide. The friend of deceased was stupid, but it was the murderer that killed him. And that murderer is about as psychopathic as one can get!
Imagine that; just by looking at someone wrong is a reason to get killed. Just what happened to the murderer when he was young, that made him think that way.

This should be a reminder that you should always be aware of where you go & who you associate with cause in the vicious streets of L.A. anything goes.
