Manuel Vargas, 42

Died Oct. 12, 2011 at 7:32 p.m.

Manuel Vargas, a 42-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Downey Police on Wednesday, Oct. 12, near Firestone Boulevard and Old River School Road in Downey, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting occurred about 6:50 p.m., authorities said.

Officials were not releasing details about the shooting but said no officers were injured.

After the incident, Vargas was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later.

Coroner's records show he had several gunshot wounds.

Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting.
