Marc Bayar, 50

Died July 19, 2010

Marc Bayar, a 50-year-old white man, was shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide Monday, July 19, in the 5400 block of Sunset Boulevard in East Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting at a T-shirt warehouse about 12:40 p.m., according to an LAPD news release.

When authorities arrived, they found Sung Chul Pak, a 40-year-old Asian, and Bayar with gunshot wounds, police said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Pak shot Bayar before he killed himself. The gun recovered at the crime scene was registered to Pak, police said.

A motive for the shooting was not given.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to contact LAPD Hollywood Dets. Tom Small or Timo Illig at (213) 972-2910. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

Two reader comments about Marc Bayar

Marc Bayar was out collecting rent from a T-shirt warehouse on Sunset when he was shot and killed. Bayar was apparently a very religious man and was a confirmed rabbi as well. See the link for more details.

Exactly why this murder/suicide happened is unknown. It's probably fair to assume Bayar and Pak were arguing about the rent but it doesn't really explain why the argument escalated to the level it did.
