Mario Giles-Herrera, a 24-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday July 4, in the 200 block of West Cedar Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said authorities responded to a call of shots heard about 11:12 p.m.
When they arrived in the area, they found Giles-Herrera in a car with several gunshot wounds.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 p.m.
