Mark Greene Jr., a 21-year-old black man, was shot to death Friday, July 27, in the 100 block of East Rosecrans Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Officials said they received reports of the shooting at approximately 4:10 p.m. and that Greene was pronounced dead at the scene soon after.
Coroner’s notes show that the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

This part of Compton is a death zone. Just look at all the homicides within a mile radius of this one. It's no man's land.

I can extrapolate nearly 1100 murders going back 30 years within one mile of this homicide. Its probably higher for a variety of reasons, but the carnage is amazing.
There's also probably been 11,000 victims that were wounded but didn't die. Those are death and wounded numbers that some infantry divisions in WW2 had when being in combat!
And some people wounder why I have nothing good to say about this city.

What does that have to do with this article? I don't live in Compton either, but it doesn't take a resident to see that this city is a giant murder hole. Do you see the interactive map next to the victim's name. You can gather a lot of information from there and come up with reasonable conclusions.

Another murder in Compton, Watts has more. My condolence to th family. LASD step up like you guys did a few years ago! Until the liquor and the bar and the bridge is remove then this area will be safer. Also when the banks start taking care of the floureclouse and not just selling it to low income people from Compton will start changing like how it was changing in 2007.:(

I am absolutely shocked that someone would be so heartless as to talk sh*t on a page such as this. I don't know this young man. I don't even live in LA but his mother's comments gave me the chills. I couldn't even imagine losing a family member, let alone a child. Whether this kid was involved in the gang life or not really should not matter. He was someone's son and someone's brother. His family lost someone they love so dearly. Have some heart. Speak of others how you would like to be spoken about. RIP man

If this young man was involved in gangs, drugs etc, that is the reason he's dead, I'm alway hearing someone say it doesn't matter if he or she we're in gangs they didn't deserve to be killed, why do you think this person is dead in the first place, well their dead, because they decided to join a gang he knew the risks just like a smoker knows that there's a pretty good chance they'll die of smoking. Join a gang at your own risk and that was the choice he made. We all have an expiration date, but some choose to speed up that process.

This mother has never grow up. She gave birth to innocent children that didn't have a chance to grow and become well adjusted, contibuting members of society. She plays victim even here on this site..."I let people on this site take me out of my godly character". This was a young man the mother and I are probably some where around the same age considering I have a 23 year old. My point...I grew up in the ghetto too. I took advantage of the free education that I was offered. And then went on to to better and better things. Too bad "mom" that you never took advantage of all that was offered to you. Now you sit at a graveside wondering when the person who did this to your son will pay. When in the long run you are the only one that is paying the price for the mistakes that were made a long time ago. When a person makes a choice to bring another living person into this world the responsiblity does not end at popping him out. There is so much more to do. It is a shame that we don't realize the responsiblity does not stop with giving birth to a live person. Too bad we have 18 years to screw him/her up.
