Marques McNeil

Marques McNeil, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, May 9, at 78th Street and Avalon Boulevard in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

McNeil was sitting in a parked car about 12:10 a.m. when another car pulled up and a person inside shot at him, said Det. Doug Pierce of the LAPD's 77th Street Division.

McNeil exited the vehicle and tried to flee, but collapsed on the sidewalk, Pierce said. He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m., according to coroner's records.

There were numerous witnesses to the shooting, however no one has come forward with information, Pierce said.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Anyone details about McNeil's death is asked to contact Det. Pierce at (213) 485-1385. Authorities said those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

"There were numerous witnesses to the shooting, however no one has come forward with information,"

And another example of why these neighborhoods are falling apart at the seams.

Obviously this guy was a banger. Reading "Twin Loko" responses makes me shake my head. Live by the sword, you die by the sword. I wonder how many crimes this young man committed before he was killed. Another "bum" off the streets. Good bye menace to society....

"64x65x68x77x79x80x84x89x92x94"

Just what does that mean?

I actually find it disturbing on how these sociopaths think god will forgive them for their crimes.

Sort of like the Nazi's thinking god was on their side as they started the war.

All those numbers "Twin Loko" posted are are streets related to an umbrella of gangs that are in the area. Centinella Park/Inglewood Family/Swans/blah blah blah. Basically a coalition of blood gangs. Good work LOKO. I am sure the police monitor this site and you make their job a whole lot easier. The ONLY sad thing here, tax payers footing the bill for the police response/investigation.

This is right by Fremont High. Territory of Florencia 13 and the Mad Swan Family Bloods. Im wondering if this was Florencia mistaking him for an East Coast crip

Thank you Kamille ali for confirming what most of us suspected.

Once again, the deceased family and friends say hes one type of individual, and the people who actually know him say another.

I always wonder why people say for these gangsters to "RIP" when their victims must be at their sides tormenting them for the crimes they inflicted upon others.

Dear Kamille & Syscom 3,

We the family of Marcus McNeil cannot place blame or judge him. I am a relative that resides 50+ miles away and I can only go by the way he treated family and friends. First and foremost, it not for you or I to pass judgement on anyone. The Bible clearly states that God shall judge all mankind. Try whispering a prayer,in hopes they will reprent and change their lives. So don't be so quit to judge. Each time I hear of a senseless crime;I can't help but to think of our future generations to come. Tip for the day: Pray for your fellow brother that the world may become a better place and some of these crimes may stop. He leaves behind a grieving mother and family, I don't wish this on any mother are family. No one is exempt, so whisper a prayer for me and I'll do the same for you too!!!

— Ree
June 4, 2010 at 6:25 p.m.

Is there any suspect(s) descriptions on this case? Kamaille Ali jumps to conclusions and points towards F13 and mistaken identity. I remember certain Swan sets and F13 have lived side by side for years and war against certain crip sets. Maybe they fell out of favor but for every "X" amount of black males killed, MAYBE one is a Mexican suspect. The number one killer of a black male is ANOTHER black male. Not only in CA but all over the U.S. I am willing to bet a rival crip or blood killed this cat. It would be nice to have some clarification instead of speculation and race baiting...

For all those out there going through what my family is going through, I send my deepest condolences. Marques was a great son, brother, father, nephew and family member. He is greatly missed. He is a great man all around. For anyone to down him now that he can not defend himself. Please trust and believe that I as his Tee-Tee Head will defend him to the fullest. He may not have been nice to you as you are not nice to him right at this present time. Maybe he knew. My blessings and prayers to everyone. Have a great day!!!!

Dear Sitcom 3,

What rock did you crawl from under? Do you have neices or newphews that you simply adore? If not, let me break it down for you. Auntie's can refer to their loves one's in many ways, as Grandparents are sometimes called Nana, Papa, NuNu, Granna. What race are you anyway? Perhaps you don't understand the Black Americans tradition. We affectionately refer to our love one's in many differnet ways. So, please don't try and make this out of something that it is not. The person who wrote the comment is his aunt and I assure you, she is and has never had any gang affiliation. In fact she holds down a family and a 9 to 5 and has done so for many years. Again, try prayer not criticism.

Respectfully Submiitted,

Ree

— Ree
June 17, 2010 at 10:25 p.m.

Obviously you do not have and never will have an Auntie that you adore or that adores you. A Tee Tee Head is a nickname that you give a person that is always there for you, in your corner, by your side. You hold this person in the highest of honors. And you know that this person will always have your back. I pray that you will have this for yourself one day. Blessing sent.

"Tee Tee Head" sounds more like a gang moniker. Thats the facts and reality of today.

To all the crictics,

Well from the first moment I saw my newphew after he was born,I starting affectionally refering to him as "Auntie's Stinkie Boy Toy". Just to let you know he is not slow, in fact he graduated "Cum Sum Laude" in 2008 from UCLA. He was the president of the National Black Engineers UCLA Chapter. Just to add,he was offered a job with Microsoft right before graduating and now resides in Seattle,WA. Talking about a six figure salary at age 23 and he's still "Auntie's Stinkie Boy Toy" and will always be. By the way, did I mention that he received an Innovation Award for writing a program for Microsoft? I hardly think just because we give these names, it means a kid is slow. Yes, I do have bragging rights. Sitcom 3 how can you say your from the human race,it seems to me all your doing is promoting voilence, sort of like a cheerleader at a high football game. Try contacting one of the neighborhood Boy and Girl Clubs to see if they need volunteers. Obviously you have way to much idol time on your hand. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, IDOL TIME IS THE DEVILS WORKSHOP. NOW WE WANT THAT,WOULD WE???

Marques, many thanks to you for talking to your little cousin and assuring him, that the sky was the limit and to keep striving.

Well ree, it sounds like he was an intelligent young man who had a great life in store for him.

But there is just two many gang references by other people to just be able to say he was an "innocent" bystander.

As for me promoting violence? Quote me the exact points where I advocated such a thing. Many people accuse .... bit no one has been able to come up with a fact about what I say.

"Auntie's Stinkie Boy Toy" .... that one is just so bizarre.

A gang moniker really syscom. When i was younger i would call my GrandMother Granny,Tee Tee,and Big Mama.and as for the "all gangsters comit crimes"its a fact that maybe most of them do but not all..

"Tee Tee Head" is just a nickname- as someone else said- some african americans do use nicknames for one another- it does not have to make sense to anyone on the outside - it is a private thing from a favorite aunt or a Grandmother or even a mother or sister. Names like Applehead or stink-stink or fat-fat are all family nicknames not gang monikers. as for the reader who said she /he lived in the hood all thier lives- you may not have heard Tee Tee Head but you know you hear nicknames all the time so stop frontin

Dear Sitcom 3,

Thanks for such an intelligent response, however when you quoted that"
I always wonder why people say for these gangsters to "RIP" when their victims must be at their sides tormenting them for the crimes they inflicted upon others.

THIS SIMPLY IS NOT A RESOLUTION TO HELP STOP THE VOILENT ACTS WE ENCOUNTER EVERYDAY. All I'm saying is, Marques may have people that thought of him as some type of MONSTER, but the reality is, we all have had some life experiences and may at times had altercations with others, but it does not nessecarily constitute us as a bad person. Marques had several good qualities. Again,as I stated in my last commit,he always talked to his younger siblings and cousins in hopes of steering them in the right direction. He certainly always had an encouraging word for his little cousin, "my newphew", who as I stated is doing quite well for himself. He never once said to him, disrespect another, kill, or destroy, but he always reminded him to keep up the good work. I believe this counts as mentoring, encouraging, and inspiring.

The people who really knew Marques they wouldnt be written all these bad comments and statements about him.he's not here to defend himself so its no need for bad comments. Marques was like a big brother he always knew what to say to make you smile are laugh. It hurts the most because he was the one that knew how to bring the family together. we love you marques you will be loved by many.

I dont know this Brother. What I do know is that hes supposed to be alive and not dead.I also know that the right thing to do is to not talk about peoples loved ones that they just lost in any kind of negative way.We all could be next at any given moment. With that being said stop being rude.Stop acting like you knew this man if you didnt. You better make sure your spirit is ready for that day or night you stop breathing. One thing is for certain we all going to go not just this young man but all of us.Its just a matter of time.

What rival gangs are beefing with the Mad Swans at the moment? I know that they dont get along with East Coast Crips or Avalon Crips. Are there any others including Mexican gangs? Its amazing how the area of the homicide is only 10% black yet they cant stop killing each other off at high rates

Why are people so willing to kill these days? I mean you would think that today we have it better than generations of the past that had much worse conditions. Yet people be getting worse not better, I dont get it someone clue me in.
