emilly,

Keeping mind that you are only 12 years old I pray not for that clerk but for you. One day you will realize that to walk into a store with a mask and a gun is just asking for trouble. I pray that you make good choices in your life and that you see the diference between good deeds and bad. God bless you soul.

— Emilly, the only people who walk into a store with a mask on are people intending to rob it.

It's painful for you to accept the truth about your dad. He was committing a violent crime that day and suffered the consequences. Nothing will ever happen to the clerk. He was defending himself from harm.

Use this as a learning experience to stay away from gangs and crime. Nothing good ever happens.

Thank you jess and syscom3 but why would the clerk shoot him to death i rather my dad be in jail so i could see him but not just a plaque at the cemetary why not just one shot on the arm and then call the police?

Shooting someone in the arm only happens in the movies.

Emilly, when someone is shot, a lot of damage can be done regardless of what part of the body is hit, such as an artery being ruptured.

The best way to honor your dad is to use his example to show your classmates that crime, gangs and guns are a deadly combination. Nothing ever good happens, and to stay away from it.

Emilly,

A long time ago my dad was in and out of jail. I never really saw him. He walked the walk and talked the talk. He wasn't a very good role model. I'm not sure but I doubt it very much if you have ever been to a prison for a visit...it isn't some place that I would want my child to go to even if it was to visit me. The place is awful even just going for a visit isn't fun. I know you are hurting...this was your dad after all but please try to understand as much as it hurts as angry as you are one day you will wake up and you will be at a crossroads in your life the road that will take you down one of two streets the right one will keep you alive and living a very nice life and the other will paint a big target right on your back. You will be a target of both the police and other people that commit crimes on others just because they can. That's the wrong road...even if you get out of your teen years and are well into adult hood that target that you painted on yourself doesn't leave. You can leave all your crimes behind you and try to live a good life starting from day one and your past comes up to haunt you. Please remember this sweety...you never want to end up where your dad did...you never want to give society or any one person the ability to take away your life. Do good in school be the best you can be. Don't ever give yourself the one option of just picking up a gun and going into a store to take something that doesn't belong to you and never will. I know at times getting the education you will need will seem too difficult but if you stay on the right road you will get the best life that right now you can't even imagine. Your education is the only way out of the life that you are experincing right now. I hope that you will not lose anyone in your young life again but only you will know the chances of that happing since only you know your family. You will be in my prayers and I will ask God to keep you safe and happy. Now be a loving daughter and live your life baby not for your dad or your mom but for you.

Well Emily Im sorry for your loss however your father tried to ROB THE STORE!!!! You say your 12 so I must assume you know right form wrong. Everyone in the neighborhood knows not to mess with that market. What do you really think would happen? Your dad put a gun to the Clerks sisters head you think that sits easy with people? You think given the situation the clerk would not defend his family and property? What gave your dad the right to try and rob anyone? He has no one but himself to blame. If that Hurts you I am sorry I to have lost family to street violence but you better face the facts sooner than later......... You think its wrong no matter what you said had it not been your father how would u feel?!?

Jack,

This young girl will wake up one day and know that her father was wrong. However, its how we treat her that's going to make the biggest difference. This isn't an adult sister, or mother that is writing. She is like it or not a young child. They think differently, the process stuff differently. She deserves more of our compassion and empathy not our condimnation. One day she will know and probably in her heart of hearts she already does but if we do not have the ability to show this so far innocent child compassion then who will? Just my two cents.

I was marvin s girl friend and you people don't know all the facts and nether do we because the video camera tape disappeared . So no one knows what happened but the store people are full of It!! There is no way he would have done that!!!! It was all a set up!! R.I.P my love!!!!!! Thank you Emily for being so strong!! Shawna ;(

— Shawna Brennan, so what facts do you have? The fact that no charges were filed indicates that the deceased was committing the crime.

Shawna,
Why would you classify this as a set up? Who would want to set up some exconvict? What would the pay off be? The clerk has his/her store closed down for hours while the investigation went on so the loss of money is greater than the out come. To classify this as a set up there would have to be some sort of pay off so to speak for the person that did the shooting and as far as even you have noted there has been no pay off. So why the set up?

This was no set up. Marvin Sanchez threatened peoples lives with a gun. The people he tried to rob are good hard working honest people. Marvin chose his own fate that day. Nobody is responsible for what happened to Marvin that day, but himself. If he had come into my store, I would have done the exact same thing and it would hurt me for the rest of my life. If he was a good person, he wouldn't put others in that type of position. He was armed with a gun and shooting him in the arm would not immediately stop the threat he created, the clerk had no option, but to shoot to eliminate the threat. I'm sorry you lost your dad, but he was not a good person. Good people work hard and make an honest living for their family.
