Melvin Bright Jr., 39, a black man, was shot at 2043 W. Ave. H-7 in Lancaster, and died at the scene at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday, May 9.

Suspects broke into his house while he, his wife and his children were inside. He heard a noise in the basement, and came downstairs to check. The suspects shot him and escaped. Robbery, and some kind of underground business, may have been involved. The victim was well-liked in his neighborhood, and an active and involved father, police said.
