Died Dec. 4, 2008 at 2:26 a.m.

Michael Charles Martoni, a 36-year-old white man, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 4, outside a restaurant-sports bar in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach, according to authorities.

Martoni's body was found after employees of Yankee Doodles in the 4100 block of East Ocean Boulevard heard shots as they were closing up about 2 a.m., according to coroner's records.

The man, who was a patron of the bar, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. Dina Zapalski of the Long Beach Police Department. His body was near the rear entrance on East Olympic Plaza when police arrived. Police said they didn't know why he was shot, and no one has been arrested.
