Why hasn't the LA Times reported on this senseless murder yet? It is all over the local Echo Park blogs and seems worthy of coverage.
An innocent man was gunned down on a busy street by a bunch of thugs and it is being attributed by LAPD to the Latino turf war against the young, white "hipster" population in Echo Park/Highland Park and the surrounding areas.
If "hipsters" are being gunned down simply for being part of the Eastside's gentrification, I would hope LAT would report on this. I am deeply upset citizens are being left in the dark about this incident.

Are you saying that whites are being targeted soley on the basis of their race? Isn't there a word for that?

Obvoiusly you are not a regular reader of this site. Just because you live in a part of the city which according to your post doesn't see this very often, doesn't mean it demands more media attention. I have been a regular reader of this site since it's inception, yet week after week I am completely blown away at the amount of murders on a weekly basis that get absolutely no media coverage.

Or maybe it was just a case of robbery gone bad,it wasn't due to his race but just opportunistic.White males carry good amounts of money, and are generally looked as an easy target for these kind of hoodlums. This guy resisted and then the murderers shot him.Again, not race but just an easy buck

Men get gunned down every day by thugs in Los Angeles. They're listed here on this report. Most of them don't get any media attention. Why should this guy? Because he's white?

I've lived in Echo Park for more than 20 years now, and the gang related shootings are nothing new. There seemed to be a drop off in shootings for a couple of years, but lately there seems to be an increase of them.
I don't believe that "hipsters" white or otherwise are being hunted by Latino gang members. Our city has not degenerated to that point and I hope it never does. Gentrification is a loaded word, and I find the hipster invasion of Echo Park a mixed bag. Yes, more business activity and alot more police patroling on Sunset just itching to give out tickets of various kinds. The hipster nightlife has made our neighborhood much more noisy along Sunset and somewhat less friendly.

this is a tragedy. but so are the hundreds of other killings that happen in this city and county. why does it warrant anymore media coverage? sadly, there is a discrepancy between which crimes get aired or solved. the killers that shot the MTV kid had already killed someone before. how much news coverage did the death of that latino man get? it wasnt till this high profile kid was killed that they acted and found the perps. where was the outcry for this man?
also @katy, you dont live on the east side. accept that. but if you did. this is what happens on the east side. you like the name [eastside], just not the real world implications of being an east sider. get a grip.

@PC and Meck --
This was a completely random killing! Why shouldn't it be covered? The meadis in Los Angeles has been covering the mid-City killing, and this act of violence is quite similar.
The victim had no gang ties; he was a hard working father who, according to witnesses, was unfortunately passing by and got caught up in the shenanigans of a few hoodlums who were causing trouble up and down Sunset Blvd. all night. They were kicked out of the Gold Room, took off down the street and apparently were out looking to kill for no reason.
I suggest you two stop trying to implicate that "white people" are looking for media coverage and instead head over to the Eastsider, who has been covering the case, to get the whole story that LAT isn't reporting.
If the victim was Hispanic, Asian, Black, Armenian etc. -- I still think it deserves coverage because of the random, unprovoked nature of the murder. Echo Park residents should know what's going on in their neighborhood if innocent bystanders are being targeted by young gang members!

Here is the text from LAPD's official release on the shooting. A horrifying incident where an innocent man was confronted by gangbangers for no reason and chased down the street!
LAT - please report on this! How many more innocent Eastsider residents have to die until you all decide it's worth telling your readers about?

Why do people keep speaking about the area of where the young man lived and the hipster thing everyone is defining him, what defines him are his Son Michael and Daughter Sayla

Did any one stop and think that maybe the family didn't want what happened to their loved one blasted all over the news? Someone has to contact the media for their to be any coverage in the first place.
For those who think local residents should be made aware of what's going on in their community: You can look up crime reports on this website. So if people don't take it upon themselves to do some research about their neighborhood, then that's on them.
Lastly, THERE IS TOO MUCH GOING ON IN THIS WORLD TO COVER EVERY LITTLE HOMICIDE, ROBBERY, ASSAULT, ECT. So stop complaining about the stuff that doesn't get media coverage. If you care that much why don't you call up a news station yourself.

This story just turns my stomach, and makes me sooo mad to know we have to keep dealing with these types of situations where these low-life thugs hunt down, and kill innocent people for the thrill of it, I really hope and pray that this guys family get the justice they so deserve, and I definitely support the aggressive efforts the LAPD, Sheriffs, ICE, DEA and the FBI do to go after these low-life animals, and people want to complain when these animals have their so called rights infringed on.

I thought I posted a comment already guess it didnt work.
Ive been going to gold room for years near the intersection of echo park ave and sunset. i had a similar story basically 2 gang members attacked the girl i was with for her purse around 1230am on a saturday, i beat one down then 2 more came from an ally and I had 4 people kicking me.
These guys were not tough at all, she was ok, I left with a few arm brusies, they got nothing but a broken nose and half a cell phone. They were all 18-22 shaved head, latino, can only fight in packs of 3 of more...you know the type. Think they are tough but one on one aren't sh**.
Anyways, I didn't want to make myself a future target and since I was ok and she was ok this went unreported. I live in Echo Park and have seen the guys around, still walking the streets (way to clean up the streets LAPD) and 90% sure they are part of the crazies or cys which is a small local gang.
No idea if these are related and I don't know the details of the case but I have heard from long time residents that its a common spot for gangs to rob people then run up a back alley behind the BOA (thats where the two other gang members were hiding). Based on my experience and similar stories I've heard this could very well have been a robbery gone bad, I highly doubt a man with children would start a fight with 3 men on a dark street in Echo Park.
Not really sure if this would be racially motivated but I think most of those guys assume white people have money so that could also play a role in who they target. Ironically most white people in Echo Park are musicians, artists or work in film and are not well off.

I am deeply saddened for the family, and the children who have lost their father. However, read the homicide report, and many families, mostly black and Latino, could say the same thing, that their son was gunned down for no reason, and why doesn't the media cover it.

Is there anyway to find out where micky was laid to rest so his Son can say his goodbyes. Just trying to find out and trying every avenue to find it. Thank You

Although I highly sympathize with Micheal's family and friends for their loss I feel for the suspects families as well because even when you raise your kids the best you can, this society and the poor education system along with drugs and bad company can turn these men who were once good children into monsters. Don't get me wrong, this case deserves justice and closure for the family but this type of thing happens on a daily doesn't that mean we as a society are failing in more than one way? My prayers go out to ALL the families involved in this and all other murder cases.
