Michael Jefferson Jr., a 20-year-old black man, was killed in a shooting believed by police to be gang-related. It occurred in the 9600 block of Avalon Boulevard about 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
Jefferson was standing on the street when he was shot in the chest and lower back by a male on foot, said Sgt. Jon Tippet of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division.
Jefferson was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police said the gunman, a suspected gang member, fled.
