Michael Schmid, a 35-year-old white man, was stabbed to death Saturday, July 16, in the 600 block of West 11th Street in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
[Editor's note: An LAPD news release identified the victim as Michael Smith, however the name is incorrect, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner' office. The coroner's office identified the victim through fingerprints sent to the Department of Justice, as well as a driver's license.]
Scmid was in a dispute with a man about 10:55 p.m. Police said that at some point the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Schmid before running away. Schmid died a short time later at a hospital.
The assailant was described as a male Hispanic. The motive for the killing remains unknown.

I cnt tell u all how much Mike Schmid ment to me. He was my whole world for many yrs. The thought of never ever ever seeing him again, or he will never see his kids again. Heart breaking. I love you always have and always will.. U will b missed. One and only. Tina schmid.... I earned tht name.

I met Mikey in 1981 when he was just 5. His mother and I were the best of friends. My daughter was 3. She had a mad crush on him and I would probably say still does. My daughters name is Melissa. We call her Missy for short. They grew up when the Chex commercial was out with Messy Mikey. So I used to say to the kids...Messy Missy, Messy Mikey's little sister. They grew up together until we moved away and through time our lives changed and we grew apart. The last time I saw Mike he was 15 I believe. He was the most beautiful person inside and out. He was warm and caring, a gentle soul. I, at first didn't understand why the Lord chose him at this time. But how could he not? He is a child of God's and he needed him in ways we can't explain. So, I say to you Mikey...I love you, I will see you soon and we can catch up on things then. Love you forever and never forget you. Messy Missy's Mom, Suzi
