Homicide Report > Michael Velez, 30
Michael Velez, 30
Died Aug. 22, 2010 at 6:31 p.m.
Michael Velez, a 30-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Aug. 22, in the 5200 block of Banewell Avenue in Vincent, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Authorities received a call reporting gunshots about 6:15 p.m., said L.A. County sheriff's homicide Det. Ron Duval, who is handling the investigation.
When police arrived, they found Anthony Hermosillo, a 27-year-old Latino, in his parked car with gunshot wounds. He was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Duval said.
While Hermosillo was being taken to the hospital, Covina police stopped a car near Enid Avenue and Arrow Highway. Inside, they found Velez, who also had gunshot wounds, Duval said. Paramedics were called and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses to the shooting said two men were shooting at each other. Investigators believe Hermosillo shot Velez, but someone else shot Hermosillo. The third assailant was described as a male Latino.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case, Duval said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Duval at (323) 890-5500.

This is crazy, so if I'm right guy A killed guy B and then guy X killed guy A and guy X is out there on the streets still.

562ert-Are you an idiot? You actually came back to a post 31 hours later and responded to it?Michael Velez was killed at a very young age and you are worrying about being misunderstood? What an incredibly crass and base attitude. Read something else and keep your adolescent posts elsewhere.
Aug. 28, 2010 at 8:24 p.m.
Hey there, Robert. 562vert's post seems pretty harmless and also, by the way accurate. Mr. Hermosillo (guy A) shot Mr. Velez (guy B). Then someone else unidentified (guy X) shot Mr. Hermosillo. 'Me' apparently misunderstood 562vert's original post thinking that 562vert had insinuated Mr Velez shot someone. He says 'guy a didn't do anything' but Mr Velez was guy B. So 'me' was a little confused and all 562vert did was defend his original post which seems correct and with no evidence or a 'crass' or 'base' attitude. You however, sir, are the first and only one so far to exhibit a crass and base attitude as evidenced by your calling 562vert "an idiot". The one thing missing from this thread is how truly pathetic it is that at least two of these individuals were in possession of firearms and used them lethally. I don't usually throw out insinuations without some kind of evidence but I'm willing to bet once again we have gang involvement here. Am I correct anyone?

Citizenjohn - I must agree that you are correct. Guy 'A'(Hermosillo), is referred to as a soldier in a post under his homicide report. That's street slang for a gangster.

@___Robert
I agree 100% with you Robert good post...
citizenjohn are you now going to change 562vert pants now too, or go and babysit him and his twin bro?
Aug. 30, 2010 at 5:25 p.m.
@Citizenjohn thanks for pointing that out to mr ROBERT yea he was so quick to be a sourpuss , he lets his emotions get the best of him. I often revisit posts days ,weeks months and yes, years later since ive been a vet reader and comment poster of the homicide report. I try to use common sense when i post my comments .

It is said Velez died defending his brother's honor which wasn't deserved. The apple does not fall from the tree. It was not gang related. This guy was talking smack about his brother...
Aug. 31, 2010 at 9:17 a.m.
As a close family member of Velez... he died defending his brother... None of you are right...
Aug. 31, 2010 at 9:18 a.m.
Hey GUest, I was just wondering how it is that he was in possession of a gun? Since you obviously knew him well, was it normal for him to go around with a loaded weapon? If he knew someone was after his brother, did anyone contact the police or try for a restraining order? Also, who was it that shot Mr. Hermosillo (allegedly the guy who shot Mr. Velez)? This whole incident is rather confusing.

Obviously guy A shot Guy B and Guy B shot Guy A Back. There is no evidence that there was a guy X. The only reason they are saying there is-is because they found guy B away from the scene on his way to the hospital. When the ambulance got to him he was already dead. They didn’t find a gun on guy B because he left the scene. They did indeed find a second gun but they won’t say where. My opinion they shot each other and the other gun belongs to guy B. Guy B was at his home when guy A shot him first, why guy A shot him, well that’s not important we have two men dead for probably something so ridiculous. They never think of anyone but themselves. Now these families have to suffer and only ask why!? Nobody will ever get a clear answer!
@— Citizenjohn , You only hear how bad it is there in that city and in that neighborhood. I won’t be surprised if everyone in that area carried a gun for protection. Maybe guy B knew guy A and when he saw Guy A at his door grabbed his firearm just to protect himself. I know this is tragic but what if guy B didn’t have a weapon and shoot guy A back, would Guy A go on and shoot the rest of his family? I don’t know what the right thing to say is but Guy B was protecting his home from an attacker with a gun! This is only obvious since guy A showed up at Guy B’s house with a firearm. He knew he was going there to kill.
Sept. 1, 2010 at 9:28 a.m.
Ur rite kinda.... guy b was probably armed but didn't use his weapon...didn't have a chance too...guy a shot him when he turned his back to walk away...someone else shot guy a after seeing his friend get shot...it was over something really stupid.... guy a knew what his intentions were....and that sucks too because it was 1 week after mikes bday.. :(

562vert, I can only assume Robert is a relative or a friend of the deceased. If this is the case it is common sense that he will be very emotional about your posting. You claim to use common sense, but you missed this one.

Mike worked for me as my apprentice for 2 and 1/2 years. Aside from whatever people might say he was a good and loyal worker. Also, a very true and good friend to me. I still can't get this tragedy out of my mind and can't believe this happened. I will miss and always remember this young man and the good times we had working together.
God Bless You Mike!
Your true friend Ray.

I am one of Michaels Aunts, and no one can imagine the sadness, sleepness nights, and anger our family is experiencing. Aside for the grieving for this beautiful and soul, Michaels family is being harassed and threatened by law enforcement and making their lives unbearable.
If we had the means to have a kick ass legal team our rights would not be ignored.
You'll always be part of my heart....

Aunt EV... some one needs to place "me" in her spot before she keeps running her mouth and gets hurt! People should learn how to have respect for family members that are no longer here with us, none of us disrespect this page by talking negative about Mike and we should get the same respect from your family. Regardless of this tragic situation we love Tony just as you love Mike! It is what it is now and none of us can change a thing but we do have a heart and we keep our comments to our selfs! we're not happy any of this happened it wasn't our fault the scene played out the way it did or that my nieces and nephew no longer have their precious dad to hold them ever again, just as you will never be able to hold your nephew! All I'm asking is that your friends and family show us some respect as we have shown your family.
Nov. 7, 2010 at 12:10 a.m.
— AuntEV, so why is the family being harrassed? Is there more to the story than is being said?
And what do you mean "our rights"?
Sounds like your family is up to no good. Are you gangsters?
Nov. 8, 2010 at 10:11 a.m.
I've known Michael since he was 15. He was fiercly loyal, funny, and a caring individual. He loved his nieces and nephew tremendously! It's horrible what happened to him. Out of his family he definately was one of a kind! Just wish the kids could have spent time getting to know him better. God bless you Michael.
