Miguel Castaneda, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Aug. 21, in the 6300 block of 5th Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Castaneda was walking on Southwest Drive and 5th Avenue about 9:34 p.m. when a man, described as a Latino in his mid-20s, called Castaneda a “snitch," according to an LAPD news release.
Officials said Castaneda denied being a “snitch” and the man then went into a home. Moments later, the man and about nine other men, who were described as Latinos ranging in age from 18 to 30, exited the same residence.
They then began to chase after Castaneda, police said, and caught up with him. At that point, the group began to hit and kick Castaneda, while one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him several times.
Authorities were called, and the victim was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have neither recovered the weapon, nor arrested the assailants; however they believe the incident was gang-related.

Miguel you will be missed! It's is very hurtful to know that someone took your life away from your family and friends, with out knowing the wonderful person that you were and the great heart you had. We will all miss you and never forget you, love you alway...R.I.P.

damn its been a week and I still cant believe my cuz is gone. i keep hoping he will show up my house to kick it, and that he will tell everything is ok. i will never forget you cuz, your laugh and smile, when you will get mad and want to fight. just memories in my head is all i have left, my heart is broken in pieces.
i will never forget about this tragedy and the day they took u from us. i know u r watching us from heaven and guiding us through this time.

Damn carnal , still cannot accept that your no longer with us. Even though in my heart u will always be, you was like a brother to me. damn cuz, im just sitting drinking teguila thinking about what those cowards did to u cuz. the fact that there are no arrests is unbelievable. still cant believe u r gone, it about a month and its hard to get it through my head i wont ever see u again. when i pass by i dont see u on the steps anymore makes me sad. i always thought u, the compadre, and me were going to make it to our old days telling stories to our kids. i will never forget u MIGUEL. Damn cuz , its been 8 months since u been gone. I can't stop thinking about what happen and how it happen. Its still unlear what really happen, cops don't say nothing but what come around goes around, especially if ur running in the streets. I still can't belive it that ur dead. I break down just thinking about it, the funeral, u laying in the casket and dropping dirt on u. Its just surreal moment that I don't wish upon noone. Except for the pussys that took ur life, I wish there family feels the same pain and anguish that ur momma going thru and our family. They know who they r, god sees everything and I know god will bring us justice cuz the cops aint going to do a damn thing. Damn I wish u were here cheifing on this kush and drinkin some yack with me. But I still got ur back till the day I stop breathing. Love u like my little brother,
