Mireya McCall, a 5-year-old black girl, died Sunday, June 13, in the 1100 block of East Peck Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
The girl’s mother had reported her missing about 7 a.m. Sunday and directed deputies to a residence, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Carrie Stuart said. After a routine search of the home, the body was discovered stuffed in a trash bag in a bedroom closet.
According to preliminary information provided by the coroner's office, Mireya suffered sharp force trauma to the neck.
Homicide detectives later arrested the girl's uncle, Julian Carter, as a suspect in the killing, said Deputy Benjamin Grubb.
Family members told KTLA that Carter, a 25-year-old black man, had a history of violent behavior. It was unclear whether he lived in the home with the girl.
"It's a tragedy. That's my joy. That's my everything," Mireya's father, Travon McCall, told KTLA News, fighting back tears.
[Updated Feb. 22, 3:45 p.m.: A spokeswoman from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said Carter is scheduled to appear at the Compton Superior Court on Mar. 8 for a pretrial conference. A jury trial is planned for April 4.
Carter is currently being held in lieu of $1.8-million bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown.]

My deepest Condolences to the Parent's of Mireya there are no words of comfort just words of love from my Family to yours we never expect God to come get his Children so fast! God opened up his Book of Life and came across Mireya's name and whispered too Beautiful for Earth she will come home to me now...... So sorry that she went the way she did so tragic but everyone has to pay for their own inequities before we leave here maybe that will give you a lil comfort in knowing he will pay and he will answer to our Lord and Savior

the story of betrayl of a family member in this manner is a God forbidden tragedy. Knowing this family from school i can definately testify to the tightness they had as a family. The Carter family was a dominant prescence in elementary school. If you messed with one then you had to deal with the other brothers and sisters. This is to show how tight and supportive they were with one another. To go from being protective of each other to now your own brother taking the life of your child has to be an unbearablble confusion and pain beyond any comprehension. My prayers are with the family. I am so sorry. may God be with Tina as she tries to move forward in her life. God bless the Carter family.

When I heard about this sweet little girl's untimely death, my heart broke for her parents. And then to see her picture with her beautiful smile and her cap and gown on really made it all the more sad. As a parent of a four year old, I cannot imagine anyone hurting my child, let alone a family member. I pray that God's loving Grace comforts the family. May the Blood of Jesus cover you all and provide a shield around you. Your little girl is an Angel in the House of the Lord now. Rest now little Mireya. Your job here on earth is done.

Mireya is such a lovely child and I feel like she gave you all so much joy. I do not know you all but I am so touched and saddened by this terrible thing that has happened to your baby.May God have mercy on your entire family. The brother/uncle who committed this horrible crime I pray for him because he has to be mentally ill to do this and he is still your brother so God will bless this family.

It is a shame that we have such very mentally individuals in our society. Yes, this was an extremly heinous crime which served no merit or justification. What could a 5 year old child have done to deserve this? The suspect is a very sick man that needs help and unfortunately we have many more sick people in society that need mental help but there are not addequate resources. Hopefully no more innocent people will be murdered, especially innocent children until better resources are allocated to help such very sick individuals. My deepest comdolences to the family for their loss. May your child forever rest in the arms of angel.

Especially in LA? Crime happens everywhere and at any time... you need to go out more or read international newspapers. Stop taking cheap shots at LA, what if would have happend in NY or AZ would you have worded your comment the same? A little girl lost her life to crime whether it's here or in another part of the world does not really matter much anymore.

First giving honor to god!. I don't know this family; however I will keep them lifted up in prayer. I can't start to understand why some one would harm a child!. This has a been a real hard time for me becuase she was niece. Although she was laid to rest on Tuesday June 22nd I can't believe my princess is gone. I thank each and everyone for the kind words, prayers, thoughts, and whatever you did to comfort our family. I know Mireya is in heaven talking to Jesus and looking down on us. She's now my angel. Love so much. I will never forget you.

When my sister-in-law that lives around the area told me what happened, it touched my heart and a feeling of anger mixed with sadness came upon me. I just can't understand how there can be people out in the world doing these atrocities. I don't have any children of my own, but I have sibblings, nephews, nieces, cousins and children of friends that are about this little girls age and being around them watching them play and enjoy their innocense makes me want to go back to my childhood years, my condolences to the family. Justice will be served, like my mother always tells me, no one leaves earth without paying for what they did.

Mireya was such a sweet,loving girl who is deeply missed.I'm still lost for wards this just dont seem real.Julian was such a great uncle i cant believe he had the heart to even do anything like this.Im so torn i dont know what to think,it's not easy losing to people you love at once.RIP Mireya cousin Dina loves you o soooooo much and so do your lil cousins.

This story broke my heart. Unfortunately, our city is infested with dirty rats, who at many times are under the influence of ilicit drugs/alcohol. Just the thought of your own fam. member commitng such a crime is wordless.
