Monte Talbert, 22 [Update]
Died May 16, 2011
Monte Talbert, a 22-year-old black man, died Monday, May 16, hours after he was shot in the 400 block of North La Brea Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Talbert, who was commonly known as M-Bone, member of the rap group Cali Swag District, was shot twice while seated in the driver's side of a car about 10:32 p.m., said Lt. Steve Overly of the Inglewood Police Department.
Talbert and a companion were in a stopped car in the general vicinity of a liquor store when an unknown vehicle pulled up. Someone inside reached out of the car window, pointed a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting Talbert once in the head and neck.
He died later at a hospital.
Police said they have no motive for the fatal shooting.
Cali Swag District’s hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” set off a national dance craze and sold roughly 2 million legal downloads.
Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call Inglewood Police homicide at (310) 412-5246, or the 24-hour anonymous hotline number (888) 412-7463.

In the past three years, three people have been murdered within a hundred feet of each other. This street oozes bad karma.

I pray for comfort to the Talbert family during this time. I watched a video of your precious Monte and he seemed to be on the quiet side. You could see that he was a gentle soul. Even though I did not know him personally, My heart aches with you. May there be a swift arrest in this matter. May the peace of God be with your family during this time and always.

RIP Monte. He seemed like a good kid with a bright future. Too bad these sick streets of LA got ahold of him. I read somewhere that his favorite movie was "Boyz N Tha Hood"; such an eerie shame. Prayers of comfort to his family and friends.

This kid was doing things right. Being part of a group that targeted teenagers with positive dance music instead of the proven dangerous gang element of rap. He could of kept his whole family out of poverty, now they have to pay to bury him. Hope somehow this leads to money being pumped into the bad areas to keep teens in sports and other activities. I see with my own eyes, it works. R.I.P. kiddo.
