Nelson Medrano, 21

Died Sept. 10, 2011

Nelson Medrano, a 21-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Saturday, Sept. 10, in the 9600 block of Juniper Street in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Medrano and Anthony Valle, a 16-year-ol Latino, were standing in a backyard about 9:25 p.m. when a car drove by and the occupants shot at them.

Authorities were called and Medrano was pronounced dead at the scene. Valle was taken to a hospital, where he died at 9:36 p.m., Winter said.

According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, officials said the two males were "attending a barbecue when a dark-colored vehicle stopped in front of the residence. Someone inside the vehicle then opened fire with a rifle."

Anyone with information about the killings is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

"I Cry"
By: TUPAC

Sometimes when I'm alone
I cry,
Cause I am on my own.
The tears I cry are bitter and warm.
They flow with life but take no form
I Cry because my heart is torn.
If I had an ear to confide in,
I would cry among my treasured friend,
but who do you know that stops that long,
to help another carry on.
The world moves fast and it would rather pass by,
Then to stop and see what makes one cry.
So painful and sad,
And sometimes......I CRY
and no one care about why.
