Oran Douglas III

Oran Eugene Douglas III, a 37-year-old black man, was shot several times by a Los Angeles police officer in the 900 block of West 68th Street in Vermont-Slauson and killed Sunday, August 9.

According to LAPD officials, two officers on patrol recognized Douglas,  who they described as a parolee and known gang member, as they drove on 68th Street.

Officer Gabriel Holguin exited the patrol car to approach Douglas and called his name, authorities said.

Holguin told investigators that he saw Douglas holding his waist as he ran. "Douglas eventually stumbled as he drew a gun from his waistband.  He then turned toward the officer with his gun, and an officer involved shooting occurred," according to an LAPD news release on the shooting.

Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene and a loaded gun was recovered from his body, officials said.

Holguin has been an LAPD officer for five years, according to authorities. LAPD Force Investigation Division is investigating the shooting.

Ms. Douglas if you're reading this my condolences to you. i actually grew up with him, devon, monique,Taraus and his mother sharon RIP was very sweet to me. we used to hang out at my house an jump off the roof ect: lol!!!!!!!!!! he had a rough life he actually had to step up & be the man of the house and feed the household. I really wish there was a brighter path back then but he had to do what had to be done at that particular time. it seems like he took allot of the B.S. for some of us in order for some of us to be sucessfull today. i was actually oversea's when i heard that he was gunned down.

Oran was a good friend of mine and my family. I learned a lot from Oran growing up. He was a very nice, caring and loving person. I had a lot of love for Oran, and really admired and respected him for what he went through, and how he overcame each issue with relentless resolve! He was like a part of my family, I will forever miss you! May you Rest In Paradise! You were truly one of Vermont Ave's Finest! His death was a true conspiracy, it was set up by L.A.P.D officers, but I doubt that we will ever hear that coming from them.

— jj .... were you there when it happened? How do you know he wasn't armed? Or are you just inventing facts out of thin air?

Zaida

First I would like to say I am sorry for your loss. Second get a lawyer quick. Call the Cochran Firm in los angeles. If the police tell you that you cant get a police report for 1-2 years they are hiding something. And maybe that something is that they shot your loved one in the back. If they shot him in the back he could not have be running towards them with a gun. Red Flag when you did not have that report within 4 weeks. Call the Firm I told you about because there is a statue of limitations on filing a wrongful death suit. It might be soon. It sounds like they want to wait to give you that report so that you won't be able to file suit against them.

Sheba, its safe to say that winning a wrongful death case against the police when the defendant is a known gangster on parole and was armed when he died is impossible.

Not only would the city attorney laugh at such a claim, but a jury would tell his wife to go take a hike!

Sheba,

She doesn't need a police report to tell her how many times her husband was shot. All she needs is a death certificate or the coroner's report. With no money how in the world do you expect her to get a lawer to represent her? And no the Cochran firm won't do if for free either...one thing we do agree on is that is should not take two years. Good luck on getting the info you are looking for. Don't agree that an ex-con should be walking around with a gun but I'm willing to put that aside for now and just wish you good luck.

Syscom3, I mean Stevie

She need the report to know the story from the police perspective. Since this was not provided its a Red Flag. I did not say anything about the Cochran Firm being free. THE Cochran Firm specializes in Police Wrongful death suits, Misconduct and Coverups, the Founder the late Johnny Cochran worked for the district attorneys office and was Wronged by the police himself. This Firm knows what to do and what the police cannot and are equipped to get this Lady all the information that she needs. If she has a case, which I believe she does since the police have ridiculously delayed providing the police report which is available, they are just not making it available to her, hoping for the statue of limitations to run out. Zaida call the firm and let them advise you , if you have a case they will take their fee out of your settlement, which wont bring back your loved one, but will bring consequences to Police Misconduct.

Sheba,
Lets be honest with this person. Let's say the Cochran firm takes the case. Four years latter there is a verdict in her favor...lets say its for one million dolllars. Now the Cochran firms takes its percetage of that at the minimum 50%. Now her pay out is 500,000 but wait she still has to pay taxes on what was the original pay out one million dollars. So Uncle Sam comes by and takes their percentage. Oh and wait one more moment...all the experts that the Cochran firm hired still have to get paid so here it is seven days from the time she won her case...and she walks out of the Cochran firm with $90,000.00. Now may be that's worth it to her find out the truth. And all of that's if the Cochran firm even takes this case pending a favorable out come because no win means no money and all the experts and all that time that the Cochran firm put in to this case...well all those people still need to get paid. I still wish her good luck and I hope she gets the answers to the questions she's looking for and I hope she is able to keep an open mind about the report.

Stevie, attorney fees are for the most part is 33.33%. You should check your facts first, before trying to discourage a grieving person from filing a wronful death. Shame on you.

Dear Jag,
The reality is what about the specialist or expert cost that the law firm put out? Where do you suspect that the cost of that is going to come from? And no I was not trying to discourage her...she was being lead up a tree that could have proven a really wrong street for her. To be told to call a particular law firm, to be told that no report after four weeks is a cover up really? Being given advise is one thing but to be pushed up a river with no paddle no sir shame on that!

Mr. Jag,
Oh one more thing...wrongful death claim? How did you jump to that?

— Stevie

Syscom3, I mean Stevie why do you care. Why is it that you don't want this lady to go seek help. Let her go to the Cochran Firm and let them explain the process to her. They love these types of cases, this is their specialty. Her consultation will be free, so let her get free direction concerning her loved ones death. If she has a case they will take it.

— Sheba

Sheba queen of the jungle or did I miss something?

Look at least get my name right. It is Stevie...short for Stephanie, okay?

I didn't tell her to go and I didn't tell her not to go. She has free will just like her dead loved one to do whatever she wants whenever she wants. If that's the direction she wants to go fine with me no sweet of my....If she goes to this law firm or any other for that matter doesn't make a difference to me. You just made it all seem so clean and easy go to the law firm, they will take care of you. Guess you get a cut of that pie right?

The sadness and anger I feel is so great I can barely put it into words. My brother was killed. I was robbed of a brother. My neices were robbed of a father! There is no amount of money that will make it go away or bring my brother back. LAPD is a crooked organization!
