Oscar Valenciano Jr., 15

Died Oct. 10, 2011

Oscar Valenciano Jr., a 15-year-old Latino teenager, was fatally shot Monday, Oct. 10, in the 8500 block of South Hoover Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting occurred at Algin Sutton Park about 4:30 p.m. It sent dozens of children and adults scrambling for cover as the attacker, who was on a bike, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds, said Deputy Chief Pat Gannon of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A bystander flagged down LAPD patrol officers and alerted them that the attacker had ditched his bike and taken off on foot, police said. A foot pursuit followed, and officers detained a suspect.

During the shooting, Valenciano was struck in the neck and abdomen. The two other victims were a 17-year-old girl shot in the back and a 19-year-old woman shot in the leg, the LAPD said. They did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-24-7 (877) 527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.

The beauty of life... and the brutality of 15 year old's becoming statistics. The family will suffer and cry, and eventually those tears dry and they too will pass on due to old age or tragic events only to leave no one to mourn this young soul along with countless others who have been completely lost in time as data points.

Hi Jennifer I am sorry to hear about your Brother Oscar. We are living in a world where a persons life means nothing, however you can look forward to seeing your brother again for the bible says there will be a ressurection of both the righteous and the unrighteous (John) 5:28 and 29 the book of Revelation chapter 21:1-4 talks about death not being anymore no crying or pain so for right now Oscar is resting he is asleep waiting to be among those who will come back by means of the ressurection if any of Jehovah's Witness come to your door ask them for the book what does the Bible really teach.May the God of all comforts comfort you and your Family at this difficult time.Take care

Jennifer, my brother was a victim of senseless murder this year too. Not one day has gone by where I have not cried and I don't see one in the future. I feel so bad for you and your family especially because of his age. I hope you have some peace in knowing that you were lucky to have known him for so long. I hope you do good things with your life and recognize that there are many of us in the same boat and however awful, it is a part of our lives and we have to deal with it as best we can.
