Pulod Davlatnazarov, 39

Died July 19, 2007 at 7:06 p.m.

Pulod Davlatnazarov, a 39-year-old man from Uzbekistan, was shot once in the back of the neck at 1649 La Brea Ave. in Hollywood; he died at 7:06 p.m. Thursday, July 19.

He was an employee in the Limelight Liquor Store, working in the stock room at about 6:30 p.m., when a black man walked into the store and asked the store clerk, 69-year-old Vladimir Akkerman, the price of a half gallon of milk. He then returned the milk to a refrigerator case and went in the back, where Davlatnazarov was stocking items. He grabbed Davlatnazarov by the back of the shirt and walked him to the front counter at gunpoint.

Akkerman pleaded with him, then reached for an alarm button and put his hands up. The suspect shot Akkerman, then shot Davlatnazarov. Akkerman remains hospitalized.

The suspect is 18 to 22 years old, 5-foot-6, 180 pounds, with a short afro and wire-rim perscription glasses. He was wearing a black T-shirt over a white one. This case received a lot of press coverage when it happened; Hollywood Det. Wendi Berndt said she hopes to keep it in the public eye since the suspect has still not been identified. Anyone with information is asked to call Dets. Vicki Bynum or Larry Cameron (213) 972-2902.

Update: LAPD Hollywood detectives have cleared this case. Rodney Bourgeois, 18, who police call the Limelight liquor suspect, was arrested  Aug. 25.
