Ramiro Chavez, 18

Died Aug. 14, 2010

Ramiro Chavez, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 14, in the 500 block of Weber Street in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities responded to a call of shots fired about 12:44 a.m., according to a Pomona Police Department news release. When officers arrived at the location, they found Chavez suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called, and Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

People in the area said they saw a blue van at the time of the shooting. Soon after, officers spotted a similar vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Astro Van, heading east on Holt Avenue and stopped the occupants.

Witnesses to the shooting identified the van and the three occupants as the assailants in the shooting, according to police.

Miguel Ayala, a 20-year-old Latino, and Jose Alfredo Rojas-Martinez, a 23-year-old Latino, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The third suspect, a juvenile Latino, was also arrested on suspicion of murder. Authorities did not provide his name or age because he is a minor.

Anyone with additional details about the shooting is asked to contact Pomona Police Department Dets. Andy Bebon or Tim Aguirre at (909) 620-2095.

— skoo girl ... you just summed up quite a bit about the character of the deceased.

"hated by many".

What a way to be remembered!

"We just hope you are in a better place."

Why couldn't he have helped to make *this* world a better place? Why are we always looking forward to a "better place" when we could have it today?

We are in control of the here and now. In the vast majority of cases, nothing pushes victims into the path of mayhem and bullets but themselves.

Hated or not, murder is not the solution. We need to stay civilized people. If these guys are guilty they need to pay with their lives. By the way God forgives those who 'ask' for forgiveness.

I know one of the accused three suspects personally and I know he is not guilty... it is so sad and I pray for Ramiro's family... Ayala is innocent and God will vindicate him...

"He was a good kid. He just needed some guidance.".

This is what people say when they know the deceased was a gangster.

U really have no clue wut it's like out here huh? He wasn't no gangster, but he wasn't no punk either. He always stood up for himself no matter who came at him. Don't open ur mouth over stuff u know nothing about.

Well whats done is done , the people who committed this crime know what they did and they know what they got coming from the eyes of the law, for whoever was involved weather they shot him or not. May god bless the departed and my Ramiro rest in peace, for the lord knows that nobody is perfect in this world.
