Raul Rivera, a 49-year-old Asian man, died of blunt-force trauma Thursday, April 15, in the 1300 block of South Alta Vista in Monrovia, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Rivera had been involved in a violent altercation with a man who lived in his apartment complex about 4:15 p.m., according to Monrovia Police Sgt. Nick Manfredi. After the fight, he was taken to Arcadia Methodist Hospital where he died at 5:09 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Rivera died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding in the brain.
Authorities arrested Leuli Loi-On, a 37-year-old Asian man, after he turned himself in the day of Rivera's death. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, Manfredi said.
Loi-On posted bond and was released three days later, according to sheriff's jail records. He is scheduled make a court appearance May 7 at the Pasadena Municipal Court.

This man was hispanic not asian. He came from a very large family of brothers & sisters all from NM. He had not yet been in California for more than 3months. He had a heart of gold, was liked by many & loved to have fun. He was a very funny person & made many people laugh, a hard working man & a wonderful father as well as a brother, friend & Uncle. It is a shame that he had died at an early age & at a sudden impact. He will be missed dearly. God rest his soul.

As for the accused, he is neither Hispanic nor Asian. He is Samoan and doesn't have any brothers. He's been living in CA for more than 7 years when this happened.
