Rene Moreida-Torres, a 23-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday July 3, near West 14th Street and South Mesa Street in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Moreida-Torres and his brother were standing on the sidewalk about 12:55 a.m. when they were approached by unknown person(s) who began shooting at them, according to an LAPD news release.
Moreida-Torres was shot several times and pronounced dead at the scene.
His brother was shot in the upper and lower chest and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, officials said.
