Robert Sosa, 19
Died Dec. 14, 2010
Robert Sosa, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the 3800 block of South Broadway Avenue in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Sosa was driving his car about 11:40 a.m. when he was shot, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. Authorities were called and Sosa was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he died at noon.
LAPD Newton Division Det. Tommy Thompson, who is handling the investigation, said the incident was a drive-by shooting. Witnesses described the shooter as a Latino in a gray sedan.
Thompson said the shooting was possibly gang-related.
Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the assailant is asked to contact Thompson at (323) 846-6556. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

"AN0THER S0LDIER G0NE."
So you are admitting he was a gangster.
Why should you be upset or surprised that this person is dead considering that they chose to be part of a violent world.
"Justice will be served,"
Are you referring to the legal system arresting and convicting the murderer? Or are you hinting about a gang payback?
"iremember when my Dad was first on this website now you"
Is your family also part of a gang?

@syscom3 - are you trying to interrogate this young person online? Who are you to ask these questions? And why should she answer this questions? Just because it is in public space? What other details do you know of this case to know that Robert Sosa put himself in a situation? The only other source I found (http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_16857150) suggested that it was a car to car shooting. That does not suggest that it was gang related or that it was his fault. Unless you were there, you really wouldn't know. What message do you hope that Gabby gets from these questions? Be direct with her so she can judge if you message is worthwhile instead of provoking her. You are making assumptions - read it more carefully - she "hopes" justice is served. Isn't that what most family and friends hope for? What is unnatural about that?
Let me guess - you believe Robert was a sociopath and she is promoting a culture of death and destruction. There was a military mission in Afghanistan today that killed 12 - is the U.S. military sociopathic? Is that somehow different because it is state-sanctioned violence?

"AN0THER S0LDIER G0NE."
That says it all. Gabby is using a common phrase that describes a gangster who is at war with society.
The only people who say that about street terrorists are the gangsters and their gang enablers.
Hoodteacher .... comparing the street terrorism committed by sociopaths with the lawfull and sanctioned foreign and military policy as defined by our elected representatives is stupid to say the least.
Dec. 22, 2010 at 11:17 a.m.
to syscom3, "common phrase that describes a gangster" boy you sure don't hide your prejudice, ignorance and stereotyping. I see none of that in Gabby's message. May be I can say the same about you. That you are using common phrases used by racist people. You probably get off on bulling people online. Have you ever tried a face-to-face debate?
Dec. 22, 2010 at 12:51 p.m.
These dead gangbangers are not soldiers. Cowards that wreak havoc on society....yes. A soldier is someone that displays honor, committment, and courage. Something that these cowardly two-inch turds no nothing about. They are a disgrace to society.
Dec. 22, 2010 at 5:15 p.m.
syscom3 - stupid? Please explain. State sanctioned terrorism is still terrorism. Do you blindly follow these elected officials simply because it is law. Dont just put an opinion out there, back it up. The US has a long history of violating international law to protect it's interest. You know about Guatemala? Iran in 1954? Chili? The List goes on and on. What is so different about that sociopathic behavior? Please explain beyond it is stupid, it is old, ect. Don't avoid the debate, engage in it.
Dec. 22, 2010 at 6:44 p.m.
Educate yourself,
Really you don't read the common gang wording in that blog? Wow. I guess you can count me in with Syscom3. Both of us uneducated and racist. No wonder California is in the shape it's in. Most of us can't or won't even call a spade a spade just too politically uncool.

Hoodteacher,
What school did you go to? What did you get your degree in? When did you pass the CBEST? I know those questions might not seem important to you but they are too me, they will save me much time and effort and will help me decide if following up this blog entry is worth my time and effort. Just because you teach does not make you an authority about people in the hood any more then being raised in the hood teaches one about life. So since you want to put it all out there let me know...and I'll debate the issues with you. As for me. After high school worked my butt off and went to ELAC for two years from there I went on to USC and then UC Berkley to further my education. From there I started working in LAUSD while in school as a teacher's assistant, then went on to teach full time for a few years until I had enough. From there went on to law school and did that for a few more years. When I grew tired of law I then went on to get this work for CDC I know I couldn't believe it either. So from the lost ones in school to the found ones in jail I have seen and heard it all. And yet I still do not consider myself an authority on those in gangs or in the gang life style do I have empathy yes at times, because I understand what the family is talking about when they refer to loving gang family members...but then I see the crime photos or read the court documents from the crime and realize that in everyone of use there is some sweet but in a large majority of gang members their is also the gang mentality of butality and blood and just plain meanness. Alone 50% of the gang members that I have come across wouldn't have the ability to do the crime but put together with just the right mix of idiots and guess what that same 16 yr old that would sit for hours playing with the kids just pulled a gun on some store clerk for $50.00 and blew her brains all over the wall. Remember this was all over $50.00! So befor I go on state your credentials and then I will debate this issue with you some more.

"AN0THER S0LDIER G0NE"
It's not too hard to understand what syscom is talking about.
A comment like that makes us think that this guy was a gang banger. Family and friends look the other way when young people join gangs and engage in a lifestile that leads to their early demise.
Gang members kill other gang members, and gang members get killed by other gang members.
Family members of dead gangsters come on here claiming that no one has the right to judge but God.
Very warped thinking.

Syscom3 and others who assume a deceased Hispanic was a gangbanger is nothing but a prejudice ignorant fool. Syscom3, you claim you are not racist or prejudice, but yet all your negative comments are only posted in the Hispanic and black victim blogs. You and Meck must have had a really bad experience with a gangster or probably bullied by one that you now hate anybody that even looks like one. Now your way of getting back to whomever scarred you for life is by posting belittling comments and knowing the family of the deceased will most likely read them. If you hate gangster so much, man up and tell them in their face. You have no knowledge about the streets and you assume a victim was a gangster when someone leaves a comment such as "homie". I'm not a gangster and never was and a lot guys called me homie. You just don't have the insight knowledge about living in the hood. One important thing you should know is the vast majority of people that live in the hood are not involved in gangs. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are not as smart as you think are.
Dec. 23, 2010 at 2:13 p.m.
I'm not claiming to be an authority at all. I try to base my opinion on facts and research but I also try to be open minded. I think many people want the world to improve, and I am open to what the best way to do that is....credentials were asked, b.a. In history, masters in education from ucsb - again, by no means an authority, just putting some different ideas out there. If they are wrong, I'm open to new knowledge.

"Syscom3 and others who assume a deceased Hispanic was a gangbanger is nothing but a prejudice ignorant fool."
JAG,
Take a look at all of the murder victims, nearly 90% are either black or hispanic. Most have gang ties. These murder victims are almost always killed by someone of their own race, the killers are just in another gang.
How is that pregudice? There is some major dysfunction going on in these communities!
The people in these communities don't seem to care what happens to anyone, until it is one of their own.
Dec. 24, 2010 at 5:56 a.m.
...by the way, I don't believe my schooling should determine if you are willing to engage in debate with me...I have known people smarter with less schooling, and people more ignorant with more schooling.

First of all Robert was a great friend, a loyal friend, one who will never turn his back on you. And just because he was a 19 year old male does not mean he was a gang member. He was an actual man who stand out from all those little boys who decide to be in a gang. For those who tried try to insinuate that he was in a gang well let me tell you, you are wrong. And if you dont know what actually happen then stay out of this and keep your comments to your self. To let everyone one know Robert was just another person attacked by actual gang members. Please respect the memory of Robert by staying out of this....
P.S Robert my dear friend I will always miss you, you will always be in our memory and hearts. Remember that Diamonds Are For Ever.!

Hoodteacher,
You are not open to change, unless that change is approved by you. You want to offer opinions however strong on the military and call them killers and yet you go to funerals of those that were killed by the same people that you support. You want change like most people in low income areas but you are not willing to give anything up in exchange for that change. Why are the other people in California responsible for those in low income areas and how much more money do we need to give to these area's? Keeping in mind that I grew up and lived in a low income area and know the welfare fraud that goes on in these areas. So how much money would make these areas better? Of course you don't really have to answer that question because this is the same conversation that we will have in 10 years and the same one that we had 20 years ago. Since non of us can actually decide how much money gets poured into these areas that would make people happy see in 5 years to bring up the same out questions. After all there will always be the givers and the takers. Have a Merry Christmas and good New Year.

Robert was my nephew and i know he had a very tough childhood and he did choose his path but i cant compare the way he grew up and the way i grew up and nor should anyone judge him on the way he lived his life...given his past idk what i would've done with my life...ppl make good choices and bad choices and that doesnt make us "bad" ppl we are only human... if u didn't know him i suggest u keep ur bad comments to yourself speaking on behalf of his family we are all still hurting for his loss...even if he was a gangster it doesnt mean he wasnt loved...Robert Sosa you were loved and will be missed very much.
Dec. 26, 2010 at 10:04 p.m.
— Katia Moreno .... the huge majority of people whether poor or rich do not induldge in criminal activities.
The deceased made his choices in life, and all law abiding people can now judge him on his choice in lifestyles.
And when it comes ot judging people. If they make the decision to join a gang and for all the destruction and terror they bring; then yes, we can call him a bad person.
Dec. 27, 2010 at 12:17 p.m.
@ I teach too – I’ve been wrong and right many times – there are no easy solutions to crime, so why do you think I would only go with one that I approved? Where did I suggest or say that? The only solution is not money, and stereotyping people on welfare will not solve it either.
It takes people within this community and outside of it to teach, mentor, and guide the youth of Los Angeles in a positive direction. This is one part of a solution will change the material reality of South Central.
Dec. 27, 2010 at 9:19 p.m.
Shame on the homicide report to allow syscom3 to write hateful and prejudice postings on this report. I hardly ever and might not see this posting on the report, but they will make sure all of her syscom3 racist comments make their way onto this blog. Syscom3 has the most postings even though most of them are racist against blacks and latinos. Homicide report moderators, I say shame on you.
Dec. 28, 2010 at 10:10 p.m.
Sheba .... By looking at the stats as provided in this blog; 86% of the homicide victims in this report are either Latino or black. And when it is further filtered for circumstances (gang related, weapon used and age of the deceased), this number rises well up above 95%.
It is not my fault that there are a lack of white gangsters to comment on. In the past, when they are posted in the HR, I judge them just as harshly as others.
Again your accusations are baseless. Race baiting is not a way to debate an issue.
Dec. 29, 2010 at 5:07 p.m.
rest in peace mah boy fatboy!

Mark, let me refresh your memory by defining prejudice; A prejudice is a prejudgment, an assumption made about someone or something before having adequate knowledge to be able to do so with guaranteed accuracy. The word prejudice is most commonly used to refer to a preconceived judgment toward a people or a person because of race, social class, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. Having said that, you along with Syscom3 amazingly don't have a single comment to make about white people who murder other people in the HR. If you want to get down to 90% versur 10%, you both still don't meet the quota.
Jan. 3, 2011 at 2:41 p.m.
Jag,
Your definition of the word prejudice was spot on!!! It describes your position on any and all police activity to a tee!!!!!
Jan. 3, 2011 at 5:12 p.m.
Jag, you really don't look hard for my comments regarding the accused white murderers (or dead white criminals) do you?
http://projects.latimes.com/homicide/post/jack-schlesinger/
http://projects.latimes.com/homicide/post/robert-summers/
http://projects.latimes.com/homicide/post/daniel-correa/
There are more, but I do not need to do your homework for you.
You and Sheba really need to take a time out and stop throwing the race card around so easily. When you make an accusation like that, please have your facts in hand.
Jan. 3, 2011 at 7:52 p.m.
John, there's no doubt that at least half of the 60+ killings committed by cops are murders. Just because our flawed justice system allows these murderers to patrol our streets again it doesn't mean is acceptable by abiding citizens and tax payers like myself. If you want to believe cops don’t murder people while on duty then you might as well believe the moon is made out cheese.
Jan. 4, 2011 at 10:08 a.m.
Syscom3, I don't know who you think you're fooling, but those single comments made in each of those homicides are not even close to those you leave in for the Blacks and Hispanics homicide's blogs. I can come back and give you specific references, but you will still believe you are not prejudice nor admit you have single out minorities to bashed them and their families. If there was a trial to determine if you were prejudice or not and it will be based on the comments you leave here in the HR, I gurantee you, you will be found guilty.
Jan. 4, 2011 at 1:32 p.m.
Jag; Please give me examples in which I failed your standards. I'm always honest and quite to the point with my comments about all the gangsters regardless of race.
Many times my comments are not posted because of the decisions taken by the HR staff on what to post. Perhaps that's why you see a paucity of comments from me on some homicides. But that's their decisions, not mine. Complain to them, not to me or the readers.
Continuing on your quest in painting me as a racist is as useless as Don Quixote chasing windmills. You fail every time, and its beginning to be indicative of the dysfunction we have in society.
Jan. 4, 2011 at 4:24 p.m.
I am as about impartial as one could be, having never even been to LA. If I were a juror on this "trial", my vote would be not guilty on any charges of racism on the part of Syscom3 but I would have to say, Jag, your prejudism against police and support of the gangbangers is obvious.
Jan. 4, 2011 at 5:59 p.m.
Out of Idaho, I did not know questioning cops' competency when it comes to killings they commited in particular when they claimed the suspect appeared to have reached for his waist or it appeared the suspect had a gun was consider prejudist. Lastly, I don't support gangbangers. Why don't you give me an example where I've commented supporting gangbangers.
Jan. 5, 2011 at 10:19 a.m.
@ Jag
I apologize for using the word "support" in my last statement. My bad. But, I have seen on many posts your defense of some of these thugs shot by police. Running from the police or reaching for their waistband while in a confrontation with the police, whether it is trying to pull up your 3XL pants or reaching for a weapon is not very wise. If they are innocent of a crime, why run or resist? If they are guilty of a crime and try to run or resist the worst may, and often does end in disaster.
Jan. 5, 2011 at 1:43 p.m.
JAG:
Apathy:
1. lack of enthusiasm or energy: lack of interest in anything, or the absence of any wish to do anything
2. emotional emptiness: inability to feel normal or passionate human feelings or to respond emotionally
Thanks for your definition of prejiduce.
Looks to me like you don't care at all what happens in these communities. Black and brown people are being killed by the score and the only thing that you are concerned about is to cry prejucdice!
Nearly 90% of the murders being commited in these communities is black on black, and brown and brown, and all you are concerned about is calling someone prejudiced.
You aren't part of the solution,
YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!
Just keep on telling yourself, aint nothin wrong here!
