Roberto Naranjo, 27 [Updated]

Died May 22, 2010 at 8:14 a.m.

Roberto Naranjo, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot to death Saturday, May 22, in the 500 block of Gallardo Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Naranjo was walking to his vehicle when he was shot, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

He was found by a family member about 2:15 a.m. and taken to a hospital, police said.

Naranjo was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m., according to coroner's records.

[Update May 24: Naranjo was at a birthday celebration at a nightclub with friends and family about 2 a.m. when he left the event to go to his car, according to an LAPD news release.

When he went his vehicle, located near Cesar Chavez Avenue and Gallardo Street, he was approached by an unknown gunman and shot, authorities said.

Time went by and attendees at the party noticed Naranjo had not returned. Several people went searching for him and found Naranjo lying in the parking lot behind his car  with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Authorities were called and Naranjo was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he died several hours later.

Investigators do not have a description of the shooter. It is unknown if the motive for the shooting was robbery or gang-related.
