Ronald Reeves, 45

Died Aug. 1, 2010

Ronald Reeves, a 45-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Aug. 1, in the 9500 block of Holmes Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police said Reeves and three other people, two men and one woman, were standing on the street about 10 p.m. when a green Honda Accord approached them. Two men got out of the car and came toward the group, and one of the men opened fire with a rifle, said Deon Joseph, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooting victims were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The 25-year-old woman was shot in her torso and legs, but her condition was unknown, Joseph said. Reeves died at the hospital, according to coroner's records.

Police said they did not know the motive behind the shootings.

My cousin was a person who had a patience for music and instruments, and played them very well.

Ronald Michael Reeves, Jr., best known as "Ron Ron" was born Feb. 1965 to Ronald Sr. and Loraine Reeves in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was an All-City Band major with a passion for music and vocal performance. He played several instruments and had the honor of marching in the Pasadena Rose Parade.

He graduated from David Starr Jordan High School.

Ron Ron was the eldest of 5 children, and he is survived by his mother, Loraine Reeves, father, Ronald Michael Reeves Sr. He is survived by his siblings Sean H. Harris, Stacey Wilder (nee Harris), Reginald L. Harris, and Jo Etta M. Harris.

His life was abruptly ended by being a bystander in what appeared to be a domestic dispute. The shooting culminated on his mother's front-lawn; the very lawn where he grew up on Holmes Avenue.

This story personally hits me hard as well, because this same exact thing happened to me and my family in the Watts area, by three latino gang-members because the color of our skin, and we're not gang members or did we look, dress, or act in such a way to give that thought of being gang affiliated, we are Christians, so we really don't have time to be gang-banging; For what?; My life has really been torn apart because of their actions, but I don't blame all latinos, because the actions of these three, but I do support law enforcement aggressive round-up of these types of people that could target innocent people just because of their race, because if they were so big and bad it's realy not hard to find true gang members in the LA area to have their beef with instead of targeting innocent people that have nothing to do with gangs.

Ron was one of the 2 neighbors that were able to maintain Holmes Ave he never bother nobody he always mined his own business,he'll sit on his porch and he would talk to everybody even if he did'nt know you he would make convesation with you and thats just the type of person he was and I guess that's what got him killed his kind heart and the friendship he had with neighbors.Holmes Ave was a beauriful place to live when I first moved there in"1995" from "1997" until now I've never seen or heard of so many killing's on one block,I finally moved in 2002 and it's still going on..What I don't inderstand is why does L.A.P.D let it continue happing if they know what goes on there..

My prayers go out to the family. I know just how it feels to lose a child and there's know words that can heal the pain that a mother feels.
