Roxanne Paul, 28, a white woman, was shot in a murder-suicide incident at 1703 W. Alameda Ave. in Burbank, and died at 3:42 a.m. Friday, May 4.

Her former boyfriend, Garret Thomas Miao, a 28-year-old man of Chinese descent, broke into her apartment, shot her, then apparently killed himself. Two children in the apartment, ages 4 and 10, were unharmed. Prior to the shooting, Paul had obtained a restraining order against Miao.

Numerous neighbors heard the gunshots and called police. The officers went door-to-door along three streets trying to find the source. They eventually discovered Paul's apartment, forced their way in, and found both the children and the two bodies inside. The two children were placed with family members.
