Died Feb. 3, 2011
Ruben Campos, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Feb. 3, in the 1100 block of South Kern Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Campos was walking down the street about 12:30 p.m. when he was confronted by an unidentified male, said sheriff homicide Det. M. Quintero, who is handling the case.
The two men exchanged words and the assailant pulled out a gun and shot Campos.
Authorities were called and the victim was taken to County-USC Medical Center where he died from his injuries, Quintero said. According to coroner's records, he was shot several times.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The shooter was described as a Latino in his 20s wearing dark clothing, Quintero said. He was last seen running south before getting into a waiting vehicle. Officials do not have a description of the car.
Campos was a documented gang member, Quintero said, and the shooting was gang-related.
Anyone with information about the death of Ruben Campos or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact Det. Quintero at (323) 890-5500. One can also leave an anonymous tip at Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-8477.

LA Times - I've read over and over again that you monitor these posts and decide if the comments have any meaning to the crime or can offer some kind of answer to solving these crimes, but NOTHING that syscom3 says has anything to do with the crime. SMH, syscom3 never left the HR, what she did was go back to the 2009 , 2010 and make hurtful remarks to the bereaved families on those posts. What the HR has allowed her to do is nothing less than racial bullying, bashing, what she is allowed to do is stereotyping to the worst degree. Someone should go thru the posts since 2008 and compile all of syscom3's and the other fictitious names she uses and send them to responsible new outlets. It is strange how she gets away with it. I hope there is no connection between her and the LaTimes.

No offense to either of you...Sure, at times syscom3 can be offensive, harsh, brash and often times callous. But a lot of the times he/she speaks the truth and it's hard to hear. I haven't heard s3 EVER type a racial slurr, unless of course despising gang-bangers is racist.
Occasionally, there's the stupid question, "was he a gang member?". Agreed, that is both personal and none of our business and often times we can read between the lines on that one. But it's a tough question that the families of these victims should have probably asked themselves a long time ago instead of turning a blind eye, in many cases.
What you're reading is someone who is educated and obviously fed up at how many of these horrific crimes happen in LA alone, by the minute. Where is the taxpayers' money going instead of helping to slow the rate? We can all see what this is doing to families and the statistics are sickening.
It isn't LA Times' fault, in fact I've been frustrated at some of my "sympathy" posts that seem to not make it when my heart poured out to the families, and it's frustrating.
But remember, the Homicide Report is a public forum/blog. These are not obituaries, rather reflections of the actual police reports taken from the scene.
I'm not defending the person as much as I'm defending public opinion, which is a precious right we're ALL entitled to.

Sometimes the truth hurts. But this guy was no angle sure his family wants to believe that he made it to "heaven" and that he is up there kicking it with God but theres actually no way of knowing that. As for what his past may have contibuted to his death is reality. What crimes he commited while alive is realevent to the kind person he is or was. What he did while alive is up for fair game. The fact that he died the way he did is testimonial to the way he lived his life.

What makes any of you who have commented here about Ruben "Resting in Peace" or being "in Paradise" will actually end up resting peace or be in paradise?

Don't you get it? People ARE held accountable. We meet our maker and have to answer for whatever we have done in life.
Jesus Christ mentioned "hell" many, many more times than He mentioned "Heaven." The Bible makes it crystal clear over and over again - unless and until you accept Jesus Christ as your Personal Lord and Savior, confess that you are a sinner (and not to some guy in a booth) and REPENT, you are NOT going to "Rest in Peace" or spend eternity in "Paradise." It is just NOT going to happen. Any of you who think anything else are making a mistake so catastrophic you can not even begin to imagine it.
If God sent his son to suffer horribly and then die on the cross for YOUR sins (which He did) and you just go about your lives doing whatever the heck you want without acknowledging what a truly terrifying price was paid FOR YOU, without doing anything at all about it, you are in for the worst surprise of your (eternal) life. Paradise??? I guess if you think suffering eternally IS paradise, then you don't have anything to be bone-shatteringly frightened about. So when the Bible mentions the word "fool" - which it does - it is talking about you, "foo."
