Ruben Galvan, a 16-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, several hours after he was shot in the 3500 block of Beechwood Avenue in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Galvan was walking with friends on the sidewalk on Aug. 9 about 10:35 p.m. when he was approached by three people and shot, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
Authorities were called, and Galvan was taken to St. Francis Medical Center where he died from his injuries at 12:08 a.m., according to coroner's records.
Sheriff's homicide Det. Karen Shonka, who is handling the investigation, said no one else was hurt during the incident.
Since the shooting, two arrests have been made in connection with Galvan's death, she said.
A 14-year-old is being charged as a juvenile with murder. Since he is a minor, Shonka was unable to provide more information about the alleged shooter.
The second person arrested in connection with the shooting has since been released from jail pending review of charges by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, Shonka said.

Honestly, having read all the comments and targeting the ones that are disrespectful and heartless, what a shame you people are. Have some sort of respect and heart, we are all human beings. Obviously, some of you do not know how it is to grow up in ghetto urban communities where you are exposed to such violence and gangs and where schools have a poor education because of the lack of resources these kinds of cities contain. Society is all f*cked up in this country but if we want to make a difference we have to help each other, not criminalize or racialize Latinos and blacks or other minorities. I'm really f*cking tired of it and pissed off at so many ignorant people that just want to blame minorities for the crimes and lack of jobs that exist in U.S. society! I know it is not us minorities' fault that we fall as victims to such violence and negativity. We are surrounded by a social complex and government that just wants to segregate us and incarcerate us, instead of helping us cope with such negative factors in a safe way and become successful persons. As a Latin American & Latino Studies and Sociology major, I will be one of the few that will strive for a change and help Latino youth in Los Angeles urban communities and my community as well. I will not lose hope! May this young boy rest in peace.

This boy was killed on my block, i remember that day. I grew up in lynwood and it is not the best place in the world. The teenagers have been falling lower and lower letting themselves be consumed in gangs, crews, violence, drugs, and alchohol. I know this for a fact because i was a teenager living in lynwood for 5 long years. The death or a minor is something that will always be known as wrong, its unacceptable.
