Rudolph Barnes, a 42-year-old black man, was fatally shot Thursday, May 6, in the 300 block of West 97th Street in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Barnes was at a residence about 6:45 p.m. when he was shot during an altercation, according to Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office. He was taken to a hospital where he died at 7:25 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Another person was shot during the incident, but is expected to survive, Winter said.

It was unknown if Barnes was shot by the other person or if there was a third individual who shot Barnes and the other victim, said LAPD Det. Mark Hahn.

Hahn said he believes the shooter is still at large.

I've had thoughts of you since we last spoke. Not knowing whatever happened, today has been one of the worst days of my life. (Finding out here.)
I miss you dearly and will always hold memories of you close to my heart! May you rest peacefully and eternally. Until we meet again.
I LOVE YOU.
