Ryan Daniel Gonzalez, a 26-year-old Latino man, was shot by an off-duty deputy U.S. marshal behind 7315 Melrose Ave. in Hollywood just before midnight Wednesday, March 5.
According to police, the marshal was arguing with his wife in an alley near the intersection of Poinsettia Street and Melrose Avenue when Gonzalez intervened. After arguing with the marshal, Gonzalez allegedly brandished a gun at him. Police said Gonzalez then grabbed the marshal and began punching him in the head several times.
The marshal broke free and identified himself as a law enforcement officer, but Gonzalez allegedly continued to point the gun at him. Fearing for his life, the marshal pulled out a sidearm and fired several shots. Gonzalez was hit multiple times and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. the next day.
The marshal, whose name was withheld pending an investigation, was later arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.

Wait, so he was holding a gun, grabbing the marshal AND punching him at the same time? Amazing he could do those three things at once, yet not get one round off before the marshal draws, aims AND fires a half dozen times. Nice investigation by both the LAPD and the LA Times.

Hmmm, I'm guessing if I shot someone dead my name would not be withheld pending an investigation. It's good to be the king.

The Marshall was able to pull his side arm and fire,,while a gun was pointed at him.Yeah rite.Im pretty sure he was mad at Mr.Gonzalez for intervening and shot him in cold blood, and maybe planted a weapon,you never know

I grew up with Ryan since the 3rd grade. He was so talented and full of energy. I will never forget some of the things we did as kids. He lived right around the block from me and we would chill pretty much everyday. He and I were so similar on a lot of levels. We both loved to play sports, we both loved music and would freestyle for hours, we both loved to make people laugh by acting a fool or impersonating our favorite comedians and actors. I miss you real bad homie, but I'm sure you know that and are looking over me right now as I type this. I can still feel your spirit and energy, and you will always be in my heart big dog. I got nothing but Madd Love for u brotha. One day we'll be united, and I look forward to that day. Rest In Paradise.

Wow! After seeing the video of what happened, this U.S. marshal said a lot of B.S.!!!

The video shows the marshall gunning this guy down. It seems Mr. Gonzalez was not going to watch a man hit a woman, and sadly he paid with his life because of a drunk coward with a badge and a gun. It looks like a straight up I'm gonna kill you. How is this guy not in jail?

wow this is all b.s . The entire story changeb completly. Unfortunately I was there n the marshall was drunk n killed him cold bloded. Ryan just tried helpin this other drunk lady from bein beat again by the marshall , ryan had no choice since the lady was hanging on to ryan n wouldn't let us go. Can't believe how things turned out and honestly it's pretty sad to see how the lapd handled the scene and how ryan was left to die handcuffed on da floor.

I just seen the video that was released in Nov 201o n the killing was cold blooded. It does not look like Ryan was holding him, beating him, and had a gun. The Marshall just started shooting at him like crazy!
I hope he gets charged for murder, this can't definately stay like this...

This story tells me a couple things. If i was a US marshall i have the ability to shoot anyone. Nowadays you cant help anyone, even if they ask you for help, why? why? because something like this might happen to you. You might die because you wanted to help a helpless person. Can you be cold and not help a helpless person? I guess so or you will end up dead with a magically appearing 2nd gun!!!!! there is so much to say...

He was murdered! Whether he hit the marshal or not victim was already walking away when was shot from at least 10feet away multiple times in the back- that is murder!
Was he finally convicted? Sentenced? SHAME on the DA!!!!
