Died July 6, 2010
Samuel James III, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, July 6, in the 4600 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
James was standing near a pay phone about 1:20 a.m. when an assailant walked up and shot him, according to an LAPD news release.
Paramedics were called, and James was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have no suspect in custody at this time.
