Died Dec. 28, 2009 at 1:15 p.m.

Sergio Lopez, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Dec. 28, in the 1100 block of East 78th Street in Florence-Graham, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Lopez was standing in the front yard outside of his friend's house when someone drove up in a vehicle, got out, and began arguing with him.

Winter said several words were exchanged then the person opened fire, shooting him several times, and fled the scene. He was shot at 12:30 p.m. and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.

I only knew Sergio for a short time about 4 months. He was always laughing and smiling. I also had the privilege to meet Jesus and what a kind and caring man he was. He loved and cared for Sergio unfortunately he couldnt be there for Sergio all the time. Well Sergio is safe now in the hands of the Lord and he will always have a place in my heart. My prayers to his Family
