Sergio Oropeza-Garcia, 35

Died Sept. 13, 2010 at 8:21 p.m.

Sergio Oropeza-Garcia, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot to death Monday, Sept. 13, in the 4600 block of Live Oak Street in Cudahy, according to coroner's records.

Deputies from the East L.A. sheriff's station responded to a call of a “gunshot victim down” at about 7:45 p.m., according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department news release.

When authorities arrived, they found Oropeza-Garcia lying in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died less than an hour later, coroner's records show.

Witnesses told deputies at the scene that they heard gunshots and then saw two or three Latinos fleeing the location. The assailants then entered a white, newer model sports utility vehicle and were last seen driving south on Live Oak Street, according to the accounts.

Investigators said the motive for the shooting remains unknown.

Anyone with information about the incident or shooters is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.

Live Oak Street, Cudahy. Bad place to be hanging out. Had a few gangsters throw their 40 oz. bottles at my car's windshield once, as I tried to take a shortcut through this street, only to find out IT'S A DEAD END!!

I am sorry to hear another person died so close to my mothers house. I hate violence of that kind. Kick someone's ass, why take their life.

Cesar Vega - I agree. Unfortunately, it's cowards doing the shootings. They can't fight!
